ARRL is Loosing my Membership/If passed!

ARRL sets their own agenda, FCC simply provides the bandwidth allocation.

Don't you remember the 2M-70CM arguments and how 220MHz slice got lost to Commercial?

Well, there is a problem, and every time I start back at the beginning of this thread - I see a lot of anger, hate and discord amongst it's very ranks!

Bully is exactly what I meant - and all of us, need to be careful of those that look towards leadership for guidance. We can set the example or make ourselves an example - one is a positive outlook towards the future and the other is a negative reflection upon those whom judge and judge others.

I'm only making an observation - and to give all of you credit - WE as in those I speak for that are not here - have gained much in the efforts others have done in laying the groundwork to establish the foundations for the pillars of accomplishment we as in all of us Commercial and otherwise - in some ways have benefited. You've plowed the path - that makes it easier for the rest to follow. So Amateurs' should be thankful, VERY thankful for the spectrum that has been granted for such achievements.

To not see the ranks filling in to replace those that have gone silent key - one can only ask why?

It is often said that If you look too closely at the Tree, you can easily forget that it is only part of a much bigger Forest growing around it..

Forgive the Clichés' but it is the only way I can approach this gently enough...

in todays world even the military has gone to mostly digital.
as far as I know only Spec-Op units & Navy pilots are still required to learn CW.
When the issue of expanding privileges for license classes comes up it always causes
a heated situation.
We all were rookies at some time. Most learned how to be good operators, some evolved into real jerks. It's just human nature, doesn't just happen in Ham Radio.

code should of died with ww2
Yet if you knew code, you would be surprised to realize that it is just as fast as texting, those with 20wpm skills even faster, especially with all the abbreviations and acronyms used in both modes. It is also still one of the best modes under poor radio conditions. Smoke signals once worked for our Native Americans. Fog horns, signal lights and waving flags are still used on ships and elsewhere under certain conditions. They learned firsthand the value of code. Funny how people tap SOS on anything they can find when they‘re trapped somewhere. Too bad that’s the only 2 letters they know when someone signals back. Code still has it place until they can come up with something just as basic or fundamental. I’m just an old fart that thinks they should bring back cursive writing in our schools too, but what do I know? Although difficult at times, I try not to hate what I don’t understand. Question everything, but leave out the hate. Hate is merely a hindrance to learning something new. For my two kids in their youth, that applied to broccoli and brussel sprouts too…

My kids don't know how to even read cursive writing. It is like a secret code. My wife still knows short hand, it's like secret code to me. We learned Morse code in Boy Scouts but I don't remember any of it. I had to explain to my kids what a pay phone is. I guess that's progress. I found an old news paper in my grandmother's attic one time. It was from the 1950s and the writing style seemed very strange and different from what we see now days. I guess it's just a sign of the times.

This whole issue reminds me of the VFW and their ideas of who was "good enough", now most of the halls around here have closed and the few that are left are scrambling for members.

I can see not giving them everything but if you want to use full privileges on the HF bands as an incentive for techs to upgrade it would work much better if they got some small taste of those bands as a tech, and saying they can if they learn code isn't going to help.

I'm not a ham so I don't have a horse in this race but as an outsider looking in you guys seem to be set on killing your own hobby.

IMHO code is a non-issue but for the love of God make the tests a bit harder at least. I know it is just wishful thinking on my part but having a better understanding of fundamentals will make better operators. The best thing they could do for the hobby is to eliminate the question pool and have a mix of multiple choice answers and some written answers like they used to. I am getting fed up with today's society as a whole constantly wanting something for nothing and thinking they are entitled to it simply "because".
