Question about amp??

Tall , lets face it . You might be a little jealous since you are still on the Ramen Noodle diet . What are they now ? 6 for a buck ? Sorry good friend I just had to go there .:)
I've been off the RAMEN diet for almost a week! Good behavior and adherence to her fiscal policy. I have a Yaesu 2100 that I have never transmitted with. To be honest I don't know how to tune it up. Plus I am not compensating for other short comings!

In today's time 6000 watts really isn't that extreme. Remember when 100 watts made you a big dog? Now the high school kids have a kilowatt.

I bought a class C 8 pill well over 20 years ago, and even then, it was far from the biggest in my little town. I was shocked at how little practical difference it made over the 2xSD1446 amp that I had before it.

This led to higher voltages, blown transistors, then a 16 transistor amp, and then 16 transistors at higher voltages...and so on.

At the end of the day I realized I had a lot more fun with less power. I wasn’t talking once I went that big, I was working on it all the time.

You went about it the wrong way. Big power is expensive. You can go overkill and pay once, or buy something too small and abuse it to get the power you want.

Equipment that is well built and taken care of is trouble free for many years.

I was lucky enough to never blow more than a total of two transistors. It could have been much worse. I was expecting way to much from both the 8 and the 16.

I still have a 1x4 that I used to drive the 16. Running it alone, I abused the heck out of it, too. Amazingly, never blew it up.
