Never mind. I'll keep my radio gear. I need knock down power. Besides all of my hand loading gear is .30.
But....with an M1 carbine you can pick up a pair of blackhawks and feed them all the same ammo 
308 & 30/06 same cal. 30/06 will travel farther with load. But 308 is consistent. 8mm smacks the crosshair with load and consistency. The German mouser, either auto or bolt has been a consistant shooter. Swedish mouser was 8" longer and for some reason not as consistant. The 8" somehow reduced muzzle velocity.
I have one of these, my father was issued it in 1943 when he was a pilot in ww2. Not my picture ..

Still shoots a .308 caliber bullet...but a light one. Mine was made by: Inland Mfg. General Motors Sept 1942. Also had one made by Rock-Ola Juke Box Co. I gave that one to my grandson.

My now deceased father-in-law was a Navy Pilot in WWII. Wife and I have is Navy issued S&W Victory Model .38 special revolver and other gear.
BM59 an Italian re-work of the Garand. What it should have been. .308 plus mag instead of clip.

My son was given a Lapua .338 magnum plus by his boss. It pushes a 250 grain bullet at 3500 fps. I would hate to be any where down range from that incoimng round!

Chris , My 1911 was made in 1943 also ! They must have made a lot that year ? I need to google it again , I looked it up once .
