Base Hex Beam for 11 Meters!

The 5’ size is certainly attractive.

I could see, “rolling that into & out of my doorway”, (so to speak) as a push-up mast is the other requirement. I’m home only a few days per month thus set-up & take-down are the prime considerations.

Finding the fast/best way of using a hexbeam where quick assembly/disassembly as a field/expedition antenna looks like a good idea.

I might have to give it a try

Tried to build one. It's not an easy build. Could not get resonated or swr down. Parts got inflicted into another project. Good luck with the manufactured type, hope that works for you.

There was tweekin I couldn't get right, swr was way off.

Went ahead and purchased this right after my last post. Gonna give the Moxon some time on the transmit side. Hexbeam looks really different, can't wait to see what it does

314, here we are crossing paths again. Hope you're doing well in spite of this Corona19 business.

When you get your Hex Beam, could you please post for me some good pictures, and all of the dimensions, for lengths, diameters, materials used...while you're still testing your New Moxon. If you receive a manual that shows parts and dimensions, could you post that too?

I would sure like to try and model this Hex Beam idea, but need some good specs on the design.

I did the same thing many years ago based on the HexB idea that looks similar. I found it in a old CB book and it had some dimensions for CB. My first efforts at building an antenna, so this idea had to be pretty old.

U812, I found exactly the same issues and found it a waste of my time. It worked like I attached my coax to a back yard fence.

I've used a 6 band Hexbeam on the amateur bands. Also used a Moxon on 10m too. There's not much difference between the two, somewhere between 1-2 S points in favour of the Moxon. Hexbeam has the advantage of a smaller width but performance wise, both from forward gain and rear rejection the differences are there in favour of the Moxon but not massively so.

I'll point out though that the reason to use a beam isn't for forward gain, rather the value is in the side and rear rejection. Much easier to hear Giovanni over in Italy if you're able to whack -20dB to -30dB of attenuation to Superbowl S9+ signals from around the USA. Here in the UK trying to work the USA the side and rear rejection was invaluable in separating out the US station I wanted to hear from the caconophy of European stations trying to call them.

Just as an aside you don't need to have either of those antennas super high to get them to work well. I was running my Moxon at about 18-20ft and it was really rocking. I know conditions make a difference but in 2012, half way between the start and peak of the last solar cycle I worked China longpath over 18000 miles with just 100W during one contest when I did a 10m only entry. That weekend I had 502 contacts in 91 countries in just 16hrs of operating. A couple of years after that about the time I'd just lost all interest in contesting I gave it a last go to see if I could spark any interest. I lost the will to live after half an hour but in that half hour I'd worked 14 different countries.
