Terms on Amateur Band...??

Call me dumb, 's ok.
Only a ham for three years and occasionally other hams use expressions I'm unfamiliar with, and "man's best friend", Google, isn't either.
I make contact with a station calling and he replies, "...you are 59 SAR..".
I hear him say this to others, but not all...
We'll, I am not Search and Rescue, so, what's he saying in plain ole 'merican?

For some reason the use of 59 as a standard report drives me crazy. For most part its due to simple laziness on behalf of the operator.

Is that dbd or dbi?
Or is it one of the little lines on my S meter, but I don't have an S meter. Is it one of those blocks on my S block thingy?

I like the 5 9 etc system as it makes it easy to fill out the QRZ contact page.

How do you like to say it?

Not everyone has a signal of 59, I report what I hear and see on the radio's meter. A blanket report is easy to say. I have recieved 59 while having to repeat my callsign 3-4 times.

I think I figured it out.
SAR was for Sarasota County, FL. From which he was working....
What a deal...
