I'm going to try and do this without offending anyone...

My question is why do so many hams today display such arrogance towards those that are not and may be part of the CB community?

I'm not saying that it is all hams but a good percentage online, I have met a lot of awesome people that are license holders. I joined theTwitter community in Jan of this year despite my choice to stay away from "social media". My decision to join was based on my attempt to link up with hams to learn about the community and study for the exam. What I found was about 70% of the folks there were both rude and belittling when a question was asked, I recently deactivated my account.

This has left me disappointed and wondering if I want to be a part of the ham community. I really didn't expect that from such a large number of folks. I know that there are hams on this forum and I'm here to tell you that EVERYONE that I have come across here has been nothing but welcoming / kind.

I'm really unsure about if I want to proceed with the exam process or not. It really sucks that I got the impression that I got from the ham community on such a large scale right out of the gate. I have always read that CBrs are just a bunch of dumb rednecks that got a 10m modded from the local CB shop hogging the 10m / 11m bands with a little power. Well I have a 10m radio modded and am not a redneck I am a coonass, I am not dumb very fukn educated as a matter of fact, and I don't hog the 10m band I choose to stay off of those freqs.

I guess I am just a little bit disappointed about my first real experience with the "Twitter" ham community. It has me thinking twice about even bothering with the exams.

Just thoughts...

I am
Studying for my HAM as well. This virus slowed that process down but hopefully soon testing will start in my area.

I don’t have any experience with HAM obviously but I think, like anything else, there are nice and not so nice people in both bands. I have heard some pretty foul and racists stuff on 11m but also spoken to very nice people. I just ignore the “jerks” and hopefully they get bored and go away.

Hey maybe when we are licensed we can make a radio contact. Don’t let some “jerks” kill what you would like to do!

I will morre than likely go through the whole exam process, like I said people here have given light to my thoughts. And yes maybe we will contact some day. Thanks for the reply my friend.

Prediction: this won’t end well.

I’ll share my thoughts;

-Hams can be jerks.
-CBers can be jerks.
-Carpenters can be jerks.
-Plumbers can be jerks.
-Etc....can be jerks.

I could keep going, but that should suffice.
I totally agree my friend, like I just commented to ForestRunner98 the people here have given me a different perspective. This is not to offend anyone but to just share my experience. Hope all is well, stay safe, stay well.

Twitter, Facebook and the rest are where the moral cowards congregate.
Licensure means they’ve Big Daddy’s approval. Permission.

Understand that and the conundrum explains itself.

The panic over CV19 proves the above: Are there devices which allow for contact at a distance?

1). Yeah, obviously

2). Would you expect “licensed techs” to put these skills on display: a HAM swap meet, or local community where people need a venue to trade goods?

How could radio function as the substitute for close contact?

3). What radios (surmised) are Americans most likely to already own?

Given the above:
what prototype or model involving people and radios could be made to work?

“Hey, boys, lets start with HAMfest where it’s just us . . . see what we can do!” (What a laugh).

This is as plain as the nose on your face: Citizens Band is no affair of those who really aren’t citizens of this nation except in name. Require toilet paper with instructions on every sheet.

Their ministers haven’t charged them with a response.
Their local government hasn’t called for volunteers to get to work
Their institutes of higher learning don’t have professors of humanities and electrical engineering in conference.

Gee, everyone else is sitting on their ass, why shouldn’t we?

The fragile, high expense, high equipment-replacement Cell & Internet infrastructure goes down were there actually a threat of epidemic.

Look at it thru this lense. Clears things right up.

Tell yourself (IMO) that licensure rightfully means family & friends can call upon you (more than verbal advice), but one also has neighbors never met . . . and in need. Hobby today, desired skill tomorrow.

Riverman has a thread started (RAOK) to address this. Even if not from the harsh way I’ve put the problem. Put this with that.

RADIO is a tool.
What is it’s purpose?

Topics like this come up from time to time and generally, it turns into slinging. People have experiences they want to vent about, and the forum admin tries to keep the place a forum where all are welcome.

Make of it what you might, but at the end of the day, the forum as a whole wants to remain a cohesive group for CBers, Hams and listeners. That’s a good thing (for me anyway) as CBers don’t have a heck of a lot of decent places to hang their hat.

I have no shame in picking the brains of Hams who want to help. None. I’m often wrong, and I’m even a jerk at times.

But the world will keep going ‘round and ‘round with or without me.

You seem like a good guy Dan, like I said I have never had a bad experience on this site. Matter of fact I would like to maybe talk to an admin about making a contribution as I know what it takes to run a site. The admins are doing a wonderful job with this space and the people here are nothing short of welcoming. I guess my experience on Twitter just proves my thoughts on social media. Again thanks for the reply my friend.
