Just ordered the Sirio 2016. Good move or not?

Yup, I got tired of my rinky-dink homemade antenna that did OK, but I kept fiddling with it. Which was fun while it lasted. Put it on the flat side and then on the vertical side and it did all right. Just couldn’t help but take the plunge. I’m just getting back into this and really don’t want to mess with amplifiers. So I figured a good antenna was the right move. I will probably only put it about 25 feet in the air. Wish me luck.

I wouldn't think it's a bad decision after reading the below.

Yes, I think I’ve read everything available on the Internet before making the choice. If not, I came pretty dang close to reading everything. as long as my neighbors don’t drive by and shoot down I think I’ll be good to go.

I went with the Sirio 2008 because at the time, I couldn't find a 2016 in the states. Sirio makes some extremely heavy duty stuff, and my 2008 has taken a beating with wind and hail. The only damage it's suffered is when a tree bent over far enough to bend one of the radials a bit. I haven't fixed it and probably never will. But this thing will take a tornado to break it.

That’s good to hear. Because we got some outrageous winds down here in this part of Texas. Tell me that every time a front comes through. I’m praying my 80 foot pine tree doesn’t come down. I take it you’re happy with the performance of your 2008. I just want something I can put up there and leave it there. I’ll replace my 2-4 foot fire stix (dipole)with it and use them for a portable set up with my Q6. Still talking on them daily. So they will make for excellent portable antenna. I’m hoping the 2016. Gives me much better local range because there seems to be no one on the bands in my Podunk little town.

I love my 2008. It replaced a Sigma 5/8 Venom silver rod. I'm an advocate of over kill, so when I assembled mine, I used the plastic connectors supplied, then a quick wrap of electrical tape, then heat shrink tube over the top. all joints, even the one with the bird cage on top are sealed with heatshrink tubing. I tuned it for the upper part of the band, but it came out so wide-banded I can safely use nearly all of 10-11-12 meters. I made a post and did a video on the forum somewhere.

Hmmm, I would like to see that video. Don’t know why it didn’t come up in my searches.

My lord, shipping is agonizingly slow on this thing. Today would be a good day to test it. the wind here is unbelievable.

My brother runs a 2016, it was easy to put together and works good.
At 60+ miles it is close to his sp-500 as far as signal goes.

That is good to know. I had a hygain many years ago. I think I left it on a house I was renting. Don’t really remember what became of it. I don’t remember super being in the name, probably a different antenna. Hy gain penetrator!!!
