Anytone at-5555 PLUS

Good morning, i figured i would ask this here rather then start a new thread / topic. I picked up a HS4 and liking it overall with the exception of the small stock mic. Anyone recommend a hand mic that will work great on this radio ? I dont need to have the buttons. TIA and happy long weekend!

On the Anytone, you can use any Cobra, or the like, 4 pin mic but one of the pins has to be disabled due to the powered leg for the buttons. I don't remember which pin right off but lots of videos and probably good info here. Be sure to do this or damage to the radio will be the result. If you have a 4 pin laying around that you liked on another rig, maybe give it a try as these radios have great audio and if it's not what you want you will know whether you want more modulation or..... Thanks Steve. I will double check on the pin to keep disconnected (think pin 4) best, Jeff

The pin 4 was only a thing on the old radios.

The BC-645 is a great electret mic for these radios. I ran one on my Stryker 955 for a long time. I now use a mic that I modified with an element from a telephone handset. Here is my thread about it.

I'm using the basic Superstar DM-507-4 and I have the value set at 45 for the mic gain.

If you decide to venture-out and play (tinker) with the Service Menu, be certain to record the factory default settings / values prior to changing the values.

. I will not mess with service menu but if i were too, the only thing i would want to do is drop the receivers gain a bit (i guess using the rf gain knob kinda does it). The hs4 i have doesnt appear to have the high pitch whine that i read many suffer from. Something with the display making noise i was reading about. Weird thing i did notice with mine is when i had a dsp unit sitting on top of the radio i was getting some whining from it. Moved the unit off the top and all quiet. May have been how the wires to the dsp were crossing over the radios power lead etc. Otherwise enjoying it so far!

Have you accessed the Service Menu to adjust the AM Low and High Power settings?

No. I keep the power knob about 12 -2 ish on the dial.
For reference only.
The factory default settings on my friend's HS4 and my AT-5555 Plus are;
RF Power fully clockwise. Menu #15 / AM HP: Value #185 = 12 watt carrier.
RF Power fully counterclockwise. Menu #16 / AM LP: Value #106 = 3 watt carrier.
With RF Power fully clockwise, we set the AM HP value to 140 which cross-references to a 6 watt carrier with 40 PEP.
What is the maximum carrier with the RF Power fully clockwise?
