You don't need an expensive radio like Icom IC-2820H or Yaesu FTM-350R if you don't plan on using D-STAR or APRS. As Moleculo said, it's an "overkill". I go with his choice of getting Yaesu FT-8800R.
Yes, either the Kenwood TS-2000 or the Yaesu FT-847 will do the trick & you should consider buying. This rigs can do the same as its overweight high end cousins. You don't have to spend $5000 or more to buy bigger & bulkier stuff (with all those complicated features unnecessary for a beginner)...
But the all-in-one radio (Kenwood TS-2000) mentioned is according to many, simple to operate. It's full featured considering it got all that you need for a small (not necessarily compact) rig. It doesn't have the many control features as well as other features that you find in most big HF rigs...
I'll probably buy a Kenwood TS-2000 VHF/UHF/HF All-Mode Transceiver. Can be used as a fix or mobile base station. You can do crossband repeat on VHF/UHF local ham bands. It's not so expensive & bulky.
More or less I get an idea of what you're talking about Moleculo. Thanks for that man. I just need for you to probably provide me a picture of that ground buss that you're talking about so I can make a similar one.
The grounding for the power supply that I just mentioned is for RF...
You can find someone that auctions it for more money. You can try auctioning it at ebay starting with a higher price. What you got is a vintage rig. There's people out there that collects this kind of radio for display I'm sure. Don't sell it for $100. It's a piece of Ham radio history pal. You...
Seems like most Hams don't bother grounding their rigs. Info on how to properly ground Ham radio equipments is hard to find. There's not much talk about it. I been looking for some articles on proper grounding of Ham radio equipments but most I got talks about grounding in general terms & not...
Kenwood TM-D700 is very hard to find this days. It's a very nice looking radio. Even nicer than the newer TM-D710. I been thinking of buying one as vehicle radio instead of Yaesu FT-8800 but can't find any selling it new. It's been discontinued by Kenwood for sometime now. There's still lots of...
Hey office888. I just saw your YouTube antenna install video. I'm going to install my first antenna too hopefully this weekend. Looks like your antenna mask & tripod look the same as mine. I bet you also bought yours at menards.
You can't really compare FT-8800 & FT-8700 unless you're comparing for the price. The FT-8800 is a basically a 2 in 1 radio. It can do V+U/V+V/U+U dual band operation. It can also a do a full duplex operation. A good radio to compare it would be the Icom IC-2710H or the Icom IC-2720H hence both...
I ruled out installing the antenna with the base of the mast on the ground to side coz the roof it's kinda high (about 25 feet or slightly higher). This is also the reason why I'm considering paying someone (doesn't have to be a professional) to install the antenna install kit or tripod coz I'm...
I surely will consider your advice Nightshade. I saw a similar tripod that you mentioned on that link at the place where I bought that antenna install kit. I agree, it's very sturdy than the kit that I have now. I might check on it again tomorrow & probably rethink what's the best for me to install.
