Well, I can tell you that it was set from the factory that way. If i set those settings down to the other specs, i can only get about two watts dead key. It makes sense, I read those mossfets are 5v devices. It would be nice if the manufacturer would update their service manuals.
If i recall, you cant set the mosfet bias the same as the older transistors. My new out of box DX 959 with mosfets had exactly 4.20volts on the leg of that resistor both driver and final.
If you can afford $10,000+ for a radio and antenna just so you can sit there saying "CQ contest, you are 59" all day, $50 / 10 yrs = $5 per year. If thats a problem, i dont know what to tell you...
Hi all,
I'm looking for opinions on the new PC78XLT with SMD. I'm not looking to do any mods, just make sure alignment is up to snuff. I'm wondering if you can still peak the transmit stages and set the modulation on these new boards?
Thx
ok, thanks very much. I need a bigger power supply. My 20a MFJ will run my 110w Motorola Spectra just fine. But it wont hold the peak demand from my N2 lol
Can anyone tell me which wire to disconnect to disable the amp board on my 2979n2? I seem to recall seeing a tech unplug a brown wire, but I cant remember. I just want to tweak my modulation settings, but my 20A power supply wont hold it.
For stocking the heatsink cover for my 2970N2. I boogered up the little clips that snap it in place. Almost impossible to find. But now Barkett is starting to stock more of this stuff for Galaxy and RCI radios. Just waiting for my new power cord to come in and I will be able to get it back on...
Now would the 4v settings on the amp board be the same thing? My 2970n2 was set for 7 volts right out of the box. Needless to say it got hot before the shop discovered it.
I just looked at the 98vhp alignment page on CB tricks. It says the driver and finals are irf520s. Its calling for 3.75v volts on the driver, and 3.50v on the finals. 4.0v on the amp board. I wish I had a brand new untouched to see what the factory settings are. My 2970n2 is basically the same...
