Anybody know any programming pinouts, methods, etc for motorola RMV2080 (RMU2080) type radios? 45$ seems a bit steep and I've got a box full other cables.

Did you make your own center support / insulator thing? What's the element lengths? I've wanted to make one too. I can talk to South America with my vertical but the guy 3 miles away sounds like crap.

How about summing this up so I don't say something stupid. Does this factor in the base coil and tuning nut or the mast? Does it show the 99 working the same with more bandwidth without the extra planes?

I read somewhere that zip tying 9 feet of coax down the Antron 99 was the better bang for the buck compared to radials. Can't find the reference just now it's something to do with how it's loaded at the base??

Gave the replacement radio from R&L a good workout last night and it performed great. Fan kicked up just like it's supposed to.

Thought I found an issue, but the fan wire is just smashed a little bit. I powered it with a 9volt battery and it spins okay.

I estimate it was transmitting at 5 watts for about 1 to 2 minutes, then at 25 watts for about a minute or less before it powered down. After it sat powered off for about 2 or 3 minutes, it would power back up, but I don't recall hearing the fan running even though the thing felt really warm...

Tried cross band repeat on my tri band last night on a local simplex chat. (was using my HT from the backyard) Worked great for about a 1 minute, had good signal reports, then locked up. The radio had powered itself down, and was really hot. This unit rarely gets more than warm on a simplex...

My tri band comet 333 gets me better 2m signal than my old Cushcraft with the ring. The comet is 5/8 or something the Cushcraft wasn't. With a multi band you have 440 or 220 too, if you want, and you can have the option of dual cross band repeat on 440. Just something to consider.
