It didn't do much for me either. I don't have any nodes close enough to me to hit reliably with the radios and there's something about talking to someone on my laptop that just seems too much like using a telephone. I got tired of it and gave up.
Ain't that the truth. It's catching up with my Mercedes Diesel. 250k showing on the odometer (and the odometer has been broken for years) and it still starts and runs like new! Too bad my Mercedes is turning into a pile of rust. Unfortunately, Chevys rust pretty bad too.
I have a 959. It's still all "stock". I haven't used it much (takes up too much room under the dash). I'm just curious as to what they are capable of for output power, etc. What little I've ever used mine, it works great.
Before anyone says anything, for obvious reasons (my ham license), I...
The 350 and 4.3 share the same bellhousing bolt pattern. I actually have a Corvette 700R4 tranny in mine but with the lower 4.3/305/350TBI shift points and set up for the 4x4 transfer case. I'm also working on a "full-time" 4wd setup for when I change over to the 350. I figure that should solve...
I found a lot of useful info and conversion parts on these sites:

I have a '89 S-10 Blazer that will eventually get converted. I'm waiting for the 4.3 to finally blow. With 230k miles on it (and a small knock when it...
Well, I consider myself a "Real Radio Guy", just on a budget! Ok, so my ride isn't as nice. A rusty old S-10 Blazer 4x4 but it gets me around.
(Then there's the vintage Mercedes in the garage waiting to be restored! )
To fix the stock antenna problem, I just ordered a Diamond SHR77CA antenna. Apparently these are excellent antennas judging by the fact that EVERYONE is sold out of them and back-ordered for a month! All the reviews I could find said they were great for HT's and scanners. Can't wait to get mine...
You're lucky! I couldn't get my kids interested in Ham at all. My daughter (17 yrs old) can't understand why I even bother. I told her I can talk all over the country and maybe even the world when the conditions are right. Her answer? She held up her cell phone and said "Dad, I can do that now...
I just bought one. Only complaint I have is the stock "rubber ducky" antenna is junk but then, aren't they all? Battery life seems really good. I managed to run it for almost 3 days on a single charge! Granted, that was mostly listening and not a lot of transmitting but still seemed pretty good.
Hey Paul, I couldn't agree with you more. Especially the part about VHF/UHF. It didn't take me long to get burned out on repeaters. Ironically, I just bought a new HT too! 6 meters is kind of like a car I used to have. A heck of a lot of fun when it ran. Problem was, it didn't run very often...
