AM can, indeed, be improved considerably. But nowhere near the quality of a high-level AM modulated radio such as a Cobra 29 or Cobra 148. If you want to talk on a CB, buy a CB.

If all you are seeking is 11m access, just leave the radio alone. Buy a vintage 148 or something similar. 11m performance (a misnomer) on this radio AM mode is abysmal.

Examine photos of 2995dx's of that vintage. The reason you cannot find those knobs is that they are not stock.. the one that is bugging the shiite mooslem out of you is the stock knob. In fact, it looks like the knobs had some sort of faux brushed aluminum cap put on them.
