Update on the CW key click: I just checked this and indeed, it exists on a late production radio I have here, although it does not seem consistent. This wasn't seen on pre-production versions. The factory will investigate this and see if a fix can be made. (FYI the factory did receive your...
Search for AT-5555 frequency adjustment - it is the same procedure as the newest versions will apply to the HS4. It is menu driven. Here:
HOWEVER - the chances of a new HS4 being off-frequency are extremely low. This almost never happens. These radio are rock solid stable. What issue are you...
Good review. It has a lot of features under the hood (far more than any other in this class, the only other coming close is the QT60 PRO). Regarding key clicks on CW, I have previously tested this at length on a scope and SA, and had no issues at all, in fact the waveform was very clean without...
Sounds good! Just FYI, ideally with an EFHW you don't want to have your coax run be very short, as some coax length will help to reduce any potential CMC and also will act as a counterpoise, to a point. Having said that, I have never had one not work well with all kinds of random length coax...
I have worked the world using EFHW antennas. I have a few of the myantennas.com versions (also USA made but not cheap, they were one of the first to really market them) across HAM and even on some licenced commercial HF applications, and they are fantastic. I also use a few PAR-EndFedz models...
Cheers. It's the SSA-3032X PLUS, with all options enabled. You can flash the SVA firmware into the SSA apparently, but the SSA mode is much more useful for me (and it includes some basic SVA functionality when you have all options enabled anyway). It's an awesome bit of kit.
I'm not sure about...
Here in Australia, the 810e's don't seem to burn out the displays, but the 640e's almost always do unless they have been used with the DIM switch enabled. I have my suspicions that Uniden fixed the problem in the 810e's, at least here in our market.
I love the "plastic fantastic" era of radios...
My first SSB radio as a kid was the Kraco KB-2355. 23ch crystal chassis. I still have it, and also this really nice one that I managed to find recently. Kraco was fairly popular here in Oz.
I have one on order for testing. You should expect FM TX only, and a whole heap of lies! But for the price I want to see how it performs. I enjoy 10m and 6m FM, so if it's clean it could be fun there. I have my doubts! If it actually arrives I will test it to know for sure.

Hopefully you can fix the HP, but if not I would also recommend the Tiny SA Ultra. It gives you a lot of bang for the buck. It's hard to beat for the price, but you will want to add some external attenuation to bring the generator levels down low enough for some tests.
If you are looking for an...
"Best" receiver is a big topic. Sensitivity is only one metric of a good receiver of course. However, the sensitivity of the QX radios AT-5555Nii (QT-60) / AT-6666PRO (QT-80) / ARES 2 (QT-40) measure @12dB SINAD as follows (typically +/- a dBm):
FM: -123dBm (@ 3KHz deviation)
AM: -114dBm (@ 30%...
Ok thanks. What a ridiculous oversight on that radio! The manual does say +/- 5KHz but I had my doubts. I'm still going to get one of these overpriced boat anchors because I don't have a Ranger base in my collection (and I do think they look cool). I'll investigate a solution for the slide when...
Hi guys, can anyone confirm if the 69 Base Plus Plus (latest white LED model) can slide +/- 5KHz? For example, can the radio go to 28.490? Or 27.350? I have heard conflicting reports.
If it doesn't stretch at least +/- 5 KHz, is there a known modification for increasing the slide range on this...
No, you don't "need" to add it - but feel free to experiment if you have any RX/TX noise issues, but in general, it is not needed as per the instructions.
It's purpose is to filter any noise and reduce the chance of incorrect button triggering. Adding this to your custom interface is a good...
