After studying the service manual, finally found connector 7 at the digital board..the connector supplies 8,5,14 volts and all are in spec..
So probably Im looking at a bad inverter..
would a LED strip work in place of the cathode tube?
Nomad, heres a screenshot of the circuit..I cant find the PIN 1 and 2 where 8v and 2v are..I do see the tiny inverter and the CFL and usually thats a tiny AC line bulb..
oh upto now, the VFO knob is working perfectly..all buttons are working too..so I guess the DSP is working ok..
I dealt with similar display problems with hifi recievers..the flourecent circuit is always a small 5 volt AC line tapped to the transformer..almost always that line goes 12 volts and...
I got this radio for a trade..
TX and RX are ok..
But it has a weird problem. the display overbrightens, lighting a bit segments that are not in use..its like the backlight is too strong..
is this like that or is there a way to correct this?
I use the TinySA as a sig generator for aligning CBs..works great at that..but, I dont know why, it never detects a AM carrier correctly, its always like 6k off compared to a SDA tranceiver..I have calibrated it several times with the self cal test..I also wrote about it at the Tinysa forum, not...
on my bench..the mosfets are replaced and upto now its TX per specs..But I was itching to measure voltage but didnt dare to..usually these radios are calibrated by measuring current draw at the DC..anybody would happen to know voltages on the fets?

Now you may say pff but for me thats a huge achievement! this radio was dead, DEAD!
after tuning the TX related transformers and inductors...
Finally did this one! was a trade for tiny mobile cb..
This bad boy was a wreck..blown power supply, blown final, RX upto ch 32..
Fixed all that, replaced the 4 amp PS trans for a 10 amp rate and a new final..
5.5 deadkey swinging upto 19 pep..
The handset needs a new cable, it causing feedback...
Thks Handy! As I was looking at your post and preplanning the op, I found several ceramic caps on the radio that wasnt supposed to be there, most were too high..I changed them according to the manual parts list except 1, its supposed to be a 470pf but I only had a 390pf on hand..
