Need some help understanding my MFJ 941E

I have the Yaesu FT 897D and it allows you to use the hand mic as a keyer. I have been able to see what you posted about in action. I really appreciate your help and patience. After setting it all up I can only get the needles to read between infinity and 5.0. Given that I'm guessing the SWR's...

Need some help understanding my MFJ 941E

Thank you very much! That helped 100%. I will have to figure out how to generate a CW key because I don't have a keyer yet. I think I can do it from the hand mic on my radio. I do know how to adjust the output power because I was reading that in my radio manual the other day.

Need some help understanding my MFJ 941E

I got my MFJ 941E Antenna Tuner yesterday and was trying to figure out how to use it today. I understand how to connect it to the transmitter and the antenna to it. I understand that to use it for tuning the switch must be on Coax 1 which is where my antenna coax is connected. Per the...

    Thunderstorms

After reading what everyone has posted in their replies, I just want to make sure I am doing the right thing to protect my investment. I have grounded the pole the antenna is on. I was reading today different ways to ground the radio in the station and my MFJ 941E came today and it mentions...

    Thunderstorms

I did ground the pole after the pictures were taken. I went ahead and unplugged it just to be safer than sorry. One day of inconvenience is better than a lifetime of regret they tell me.

    Thunderstorms

Bleh! Thunderstorms in the area today. I read or was told somewhere to unplug my antenna at the radio when there are thunderstorms. How much truth is there to this or how much is myth? Is it just good general practice?

    It works! First contact...

Thanks for the info Captain Kilowatt. I think what I'm going to do is what you mentioned and just put the $2 in a Flat Rate envelope along with my QSL Card and see how that goes. I was able to make a 2nd contact today with a DXpedition team in Curacao. That was pretty cool. Hopefully I will get...

    Computer Logbook

Thanks Qwayzone. I have a computer I'm going to use for digital work but need a desk on that side of the room nearer my radio. I would eventually like to migrate to using HRD because I have seen someone using it locally. The only thing I didn't like was having to go through Skype and all that mess.

    Computer Logbook

Thank you very much Mike. I will give those a good looking over. So far I'm just keeping a Notepad file with the info.

    It works! First contact...

I sure will. He was saying on the radio he doesn't have internet so I hope the address he has listed at QRZ.com is current.

    Computer Logbook

Is there some type of computer logbook that I could download to keep track of my contacts? I thought I saw one on the ARRL site but can't find it now. If there are only purchase ones, could someone recommend a good one that is not too over the top?

    It works! First contact...

I found him on QRZ.com His callsign was HR2J - Javier from Honduras. It sounded like he was sitting in the room next to me. It was amazing and he gave me a 5/9 report in return. When I heard that I was so excited because I didn't know if my radio and antenna were even working. That alone gives...

    It works! First contact...

Thanks for the info. I'm still shaking from the excitement and its been over an hour. So I can purchase and IRC at the local Post Office and they will know what I need? Seems like that would be easier than sending a SAE and/or money.

    It works! First contact...

I still don't understand what an IRC and a Green Stamp is. Understand its something you send, but what is it?

    It works! First contact...

I made my first contact today with a gentleman from Honduras. It sounded like he was in the room with me (5/9). I'm still shaking from the excitement :w00t: Can someone please tell me what this means?: two green stamps on one IRC is required. SAE requested I understand the Self Addressed...

    Antenna in the wind...

This morning I ran a ground wire from the pole down to the grounding at my electrical box. I wasn't completely sure how to ground the antenna itself. I have a notepad on the right side of my desk for now. So far I have not been able to do anything without a tuner and hopefully it will be here...

    Antenna in the wind...

Alright. Here are a few pictures of the antenna and what I call my "shack" for now. I still don't have a tuner yet but have one on the way. Its supposed to be here tomorrow. So far all I can pick up is some CW on the higher bands and very weak voice spread throughout 10 - 40 meters. Of course...
