I was just finishing it all up as the sun went down. As soon as I get good daylight in the morning, I will go out and get a few pics and post them here. The only thing left to do inside the shack is to solder the other PL-259 onto the coax.
I finally got my first antenna in the wind.
The Antron 99 is about 30 - 40 feet above ground level. Mast and antenna alone are 27 feet and the bottom of the mast ends just below the crest of my roof. Given that, I'm guessing 30 feet ground to bottom of antenna and then 17 feet of...
I am thinking about mounting 2 vertical antenna's on the same mounting pole and was wondering what the minimum separation distance should be between the the two main elements? Center to center if I mount them the way I have in mind, there would be about one foot between them. Is that enough...
I'm not sure if this question should have gone here or in the General forum but what I'm looking for is if someone knows where the Orbitron Screensaver.ini file is found? I have noticed it only updates something like every 5 seconds or so and I would like to see if I can change it to realtime...
Thanks everyone for the encouragement and excellent advice. I really appreciate it. I think I am going to go with the Jetstream JTB-1 as it will cover 2 meter and 70 centimeter nicely. I will be running them through a MFJ 941E and then on to my Yaesu FT 987D
Thanks again guys for all the helpful advice. I was able to find a chimney mount at the local electronics supply house. That place never ceases to amaze me. I was able to find the mount there as well as 100' of RG8 and PL-259 plugs to make the coax. I never would have imagined them having...
I have a chimney on the house I'm renting and it is no longer in use. I was thinking of putting a mounting pole down the flue and mounting my Antron 99 on that pole. I could then run the coax down the flue as well and into the house via the opening in my wall. Has anyone done this before or what...
Just an update.
My first radio arrived today. I wound up getting a used Yaesu FT 897D. I'm really excited. Time to read the manual. I ordered an Antron 99 antenna from H&Y Electronics so hopefully it will be here by Monday. I had the opportunity to see an Antron in action during the Gulf War...
I'm really new to all of this so I apologize if I wasn't clear on what I was asking. I'm going to build a multi band dipole antenna and would like a meter of some type to analyze it and tune it if need be. I would like to keep the cost to around $100 but could spend more if needed.
I am looking to purchase a Antenna Tuner / Analyzer and would like to keep my cost to $100 or less. Does anyone know of a quality unit for that price range? If that is not an option, what would be the next step up as far as cost? $150-$200?
@office888 - Thanks for the reply. It was given to me by my Dad and I would love to keep it in tip top shape.
@kd8dvr - I apologize for posting in the wrong place. Can you move the topic for me?
@359 - I'm sorry to hear she didn't have a good go it the first time. Some head chef's really have an ego because they have gotten where they are and forgotten where they came from. Luckily my head chef is well grounded and very easy to get along with. I would personally encourage her to go back...
