    Nascar hasn't changed

Watched about half of the truck "race" last night. Really, they ought to award bonus points for any driver that completes the race without sheet metal damage.

    Anybody use a Hygain TH11DX?

I have an EXP-14 that I traded for almost 30 years ago. I had it up for a few years then had to take it down and have been slowly refurbishing it. When it was up it worked very well. Granted, no WARC band coverage but I'm not sure how much gain I need on those bands as I'm not a serious DXer...

Is 2 meter and other bands all dead all the time?

W5YI-VEC may have a team close to your location as well: http://www.w5yi-vec.org/exam_locations_ama.php

    Anyone know about ranching?

I'm reasonably sure I caught sight of a big cat about a mile and a half east of here a number of years ago. Supposedly there are none in Kansas. I've heard stories third hand of someone shooting one and in short order a game warden showed up. A few years back a neighbor lost some calves from...

Anyone here going to bid on this.........??

Apparently, I'm so poor I couldn't rub two Liberty nickels together...

Do Not Sell on eBay While Drunk

When I see this I am reminded that there are people the education system failed, and some who failed at getting an education.

My shack mess.. and new bench.

No, at the feedpoint of the antenna. The idea is to stop the current from flowing down the outside of the coaxial cable due to skin effect at RF. The ferrite beads on the outside of a length of cable at the feedpoint creates an RF choke. The concept is also known as feedline decoupling.

My shack mess.. and new bench.

A caution on the LMR-240 as I use it as well. A few years ago I decided to go a bit cheaper route and use RF-Industries connectors--RFU-508-X--and found the center dielectric with the fused foil will slip into the end of the center pin inside the connector. I trimmed the foil off the...

    New location....

A center-fed doublet that has an overall length of 204 feet, plus or minus a bit, fed with 450 ohm ladder line all the way into the shack tuner will load up very well on 160 through 30m. It will also load on the higher band but the pattern probably becomes really weird. This is what I use for...

    Solar Minimum has arrived...

I'd "like" your post, BJ, but I don't like those graphs. Oh well, whattcha gonna do? Just keep on keeping on, I guess.

    Solar Minimum has arrived...

There are plenty of zeroes in the tenth call area. Current snapshot from QRZ's front page: It looks like we're still above the lowest ever recorded SFI of 64.2 in early 2008, as near as I can find.

Ever wonder what's inside those W2DU baluns?

Aww, no problem. (y) I'll bet that Walt contended with the confusion more than once and I suspect that he was quite the gentleman about it. I never met him. He left us a legacy of transmission line matching, tuners, baluns, SWR, and probably more! For anyone that has access to the QST...

Ever wonder what's inside those W2DU baluns?

RG-142 many be a tight fit with only 0.002" clearance between the spec of the outer jacket and the ID of the mix 73 beads. I suspect that is why Walt chose RG-303 along with it being PTFE and able to handle nominal power ratings. IIRC, at the time he wrote the article, Part 97 limited amateurs...

Ever wonder what's inside those W2DU baluns?

Thanks for that! I can see the air coil being an outstanding performer that doesn't have the possibility of the ferrite core saturating or heating.

Ever wonder what's inside those W2DU baluns?

Thanks for the pic! Hmmm, if it is a "W2DU" balun, I would have expected a string of ferrite beads over Teflon coax as that is the only configuration Walt ever really promoted that I'm aware of. Unadilla also sells "W2AU" baluns that IIRC are the conventional transformer type of blauns. From...

    MegaWatt power supply

If it's like the 70 amp Megawatt, yes, there is a fan and it is LOUD. I bought one of those supplies about a year and a half ago, discovered the noise issue, and finally sold the supply a while back without ever using it. YMMV

Bringing this up from the deep thanks to Google. CK, the second picture is apparently no longer available as it comes up with the image not found icon. Do you still have it?

    Anyone know about ranching?

Not so sure about that after yesterday's announcement by Trump and Junker. Beans are up 17.75 cents right now on the overnight electronic trade. It will be interesting to see how the day trading goes.

    PAPA JOHN will be missed

The closest place to get Papa Johns that I know of is as a convenience store kiosk about 60 miles away and I don't go there any more. I had those pizzas two or three times and they were good. Not drive 120 miles out of my way good, but good. Thus, participating in the boycott will be a snap...
