Alot of the locals round here were buying those up cause they were so cheap,bout 10-12 yrs ago,but they soon found out why they were so cheap! The stupid things were breaking off at the joints w/very little wind and/or icing!Man were those guys pissed! I'm not aware of ANY of them left now...

Tony,just because the diode "appears" to be fine doesn't mean it is OK. It may be,but,you need a meter w/the diode check function to see for sure. Sometimes they will crack,albeit a hairline at that,sometimes they won't! I'd give that a shot first. Kinda like a resistor,sometimes they appear OK...

I like that coded squelch too.tho I never had anyone else to use it with :( I have the same problem w/mine on SSB.Mine also was the infamous :?: EEI turbo-tuned version. It made several trips back just before they folded! I keep thinking one of these days I'll send it off and get it squared...
