Yes you can or you can use an NTE153 or MJE2955T. I replace the 2SA1012's which is the AM regulator in the Uniden chassis that use the upd2824 pll chip as the original which is a 2SA1012 it's underrated so I use either a MJE2955T or the NTE153.

You can use the transformer from a Uniden Washington or even a Cobra 139XLR or Realsitic TRC-457 - TRC458 they will all work fine.

You can find the service manual on the cb tricks web site. You can use the one for the Realsitic TRC-453 or TRC-465 as they share the same chassis.

Yes I could use a different type plug but the OEM one has the built in switch so if you take the radio mobile or use it on an external power supply via the 13.8v plug on the radio, the internal switch disconnects the 13.8v one while the 120v source in applied.
