The 5 element maco is a 26 ft boom. I really like mine but maco specs are more for gain than front to back. If wanting a strong backdoor you may want to have someone with a good modeling program help you out. There are a handfull of folks on here that could help you im sure.

Sounds like I got a great deal. I gave alot less than 250 for it. I do have to find a mic. It has a d104 but was setting and the battery went bad and messed up the battery connection. Easy fix but I need a mic for ssb.

58ft works well here. High enough for great local work and works well for dx.

A friend just installed a 20 kw in his home hooked to natural gas. May do somthing like that down the road. Tornado shelter will be next. May put my shack down there but im sure I would need a dehumidifier.

878 is a good desk mic for a new astatic.

I love having both polarities also. I dont have a groundplane so it makes the 5 element h/v usefull in more types of conditons and works great for local or dx.

They dont sing all the time. Just every now and then. I didnt use endcaps so it wont hold water in the elements. Love my 5 element maco. They gotta work. DX man has talked everywhere on his and I never had more fun on the radio in my life.

A good quad or yagi will both do a great job. After you get a quad and a yagi in the air very little if any difference will be seen. A quad may be a fuzz quieter im not sure. Yagis are usually a little stronger in the elements. I think you will be fine either way. Peace!
