I'm no longer doing CB but before I sold them all I had a 980 & it worked great. I got great reports on AM & SSB & if I were going to get back on the 11 meter band I would buy another one.
Mayo is a small & quiet little town. I have a friend who drives a truck for a company in Mayo. He's on CB & Ham Radio in Lake City, Florida. They actually changed the name of the town to Miracle Whip until the citizens of Mayo made a big stink about it. They did not see the humor in the name...
I'm good on QRZ.com if you send me an email I usually get a notification on my phone & we can try & hookup on the air. We have a viewing & funeral at the end of the week for a family member so I will be unavailable on Friday & Saturday for the most part. W4KVW
Good friends with our Sheriff (worked for his dad when he was the Chief of Police in the 80's) & my neighbor across the street is a State Trooper & a Deputy two homes down the street. Crime rate is pretty low. Being a Retired Law Enforcement Officer (30 Years) the criminals leave me alone pretty...
I have No Idea on the 11 meter band but for Amateur Radio there are some good repeaters on 2 meters. 146.760, 147.000, 146.700, 146.670, are the best of the area. I don't have the tones right off hand, but they are available online. I live about 30 miles from each of those machines, but I can...
My neighbor & Best friend recently purchased a New Elecraft 500 watt & 1500 watt amplifier & both of them operate 10 meters right out of the box? I thought that provision was removed several years ago by the FCC? I have another friend with a New Acom & it needed no modifications either? Pretty...
No big deal. It's just Stuff & all is good. Insurance paid in One Day of me filing the claim & they paid Retail Prices for everything lost in my shack & inside & outside of our home. We did very well & the best part is Nobody was injured.
Rural Small Town USA. We are the 1st home outside of the city limits so our privacy fence serves as the city limits sign is what I always say. You could not give me a home in a Big city for FREE.
It was slightly Overcast here & it had not rained in over an hour. The nearest rain was over 35 miles to my south. We had one lightning strike which was what hit our home or near our home & not another one the remainder of the day or night. It's very difficult to operate with the antennas &...
My dad had a Johnson 100 6 Channel CB in his car & he allowed me to use it. It was in 1965 before my 5th birthday. I had a couple of local friends that were Ham Operators & they convinced me to get into Ham Radio which I did in March of 1994. Radio is in my blood & I am usually chasing DX on...
My neighbor & Best friend has a 5100 that was in his mobile & the screen washed out completely so you can't read anything on it. He hated the screen before & now it's useless. I have had my 4100 in my pickup for several years with zero issues with anything with it including the display. It's a...
Last I recall it was 3kc wide on Phone in the USA. It's why technically if you are a Technician Class that you are actually pushing the limits if you operate say,28.300.00 because half of your transmitted signal would be Out of your authorized Band at 28.298.500 & the same for General Class or...
I could not see the original pictures when I posted my reply long ago. The one in the side of the rotor does look a lot like my YAESU G-800DXA rotor plug.
Maybe because of bandwidth limits on Amateur Radio? The Kenwood 940 & 950 had lots of mods that really make them Wide but those doing so did not make any friends on the air being 5kc's or even wider on transmit. I believe many of the new SDR's will also get Very wide but again you will make...
I have been running an ICOM 4100a for several years in my pickup along with my ICOM 7000. Both perform very well & they are pretty simple to operate. I used an RT Systems cable to program the 4100a so it was very easy. I always run it on High Power since we have few repeaters here locally.
I use a Quality Studio Microphone that does not pick up most background noises. The HEIL FIN with my ICOM 7610, Electro Voice RE 320 with my ICOM 9100, HEIL PR20 on many radios, & HEIL iCM on my older ICOM radios are very very good at cancelling the background noises.
