Texas star 500v let out the smoke

Yep. One or more of the pills has shorted internally. Had a few go that way over the years....... It likely failed when the cap went. Either the cap failing caused a pill to blow, or much more likely the pill failure caused the cap to blow. What radio were you using to drive the amp? What...

    SWR before linear

That SWR between the radio and amp is much to high for sure. It should be below 2. I run a Palomar TX200 and the input SWR is 1.1 There are some amp experts on here and hopefully one of them will chime in with an idea of what the issue could be. You definately want to make sure all...

    11 meter is very quiet?

That mobile you were on was cutting through the chaos really well at times! Great to talk to you....hopefully there will be less QRM next time LOL!

Apologies to our friends in the UK

That's still a thing. If you go on any European SDR you can hear them arguing away in French & Italian on 6660 KHz or thereabouts........... Think there are some around 3460 KHz still as well.

Apologies to our friends in the UK

Thanks bob85! I knew most of the video was BS, but didn't feel I had enough familiarity with the history of what actually happened to comment on it. You have said everything that needs to be said and showed yet again that there is more and more BS, disinformation, AI slop, and general...

    238AT/0 now active.

Oooh! That would be a good one to get! I've had decent conditions out that way some late afternoons. Heard both 153 div Thailand and 155 div Taiwan (both of which I've already bagged) within the last couple weeks, so there might be an opportunity if I'm super lucky........

I'm sure everyone remembers me noise issue... (update)

More recently I had a neighbor with one of those wifi over powerline setups. They were using it to feed wifi to a cabin at the back of their property. That thing was horrible! Sometimes it sounded like a motorboat and other times like a screech monkey on drugs. It went on 24/7 wiping...

I'm sure everyone remembers me noise issue... (update)

Those plasma TV's were terrible for generating noise. Back around 15 years ago I had a neighbor four houses down with one and even at that distance it pretty much wiped out CB and shortwave. Eventually they got rid of it and bought something else and the problem went away.

    Galaxy radios is dead

They might as well. In several places including Brazil, Germany and Russia the "freeband" is already part of those countries legal CB spectrum. Brazil & Germany both have 80 channels from 26.965 to 27.855 & Russia has 160 channels. Then there are places like New Zealand, India & the UK where...

    11 meter is very quiet?

I'm sick and off work and it's my birthday.... But the big perk is that I got a ton of radio time in yesterday and today. Conditions were fantastic here this morning....made about a dozen contacts. Hawaii, New York City, Long Island, Manitoba, Ontario, Upstate New York, Arkansas, Alabama...

    Death penalty? Really?

Very true. Yet Russia is one of the worlds biggest users of the 11 meter band! They have a 160 channel band that is heavily used by truckers and various other business users, especially taxi companies and couriers. Just like in Europe it is nearly all FM & SSB modes. There are a number of...

    Death penalty? Really?

Oh please let's do that! And the "crying baby" guy too..... And the guy who plays Fox news all day every day....... And the guy with the Hitler speeches, And the guy with the air-raid siren sound effect........ And a whole bunch of other radio misfits. I'll happily contribute to the cost...

    Galaxy radios is dead

One less company making drifty substandard outdated radios. I won't be shedding a tear for Galaxy. They had years and years to pull it together but they just kept churning out the same junk. In the tech world, you either innovate or you perish and Galaxy choose the second option. CB and 11...

    How about it?

Mildest and wettest winter in decades out here on the west coast of BC. The coldest it got all winter so far was -2C. Sitting at +2C right now. Been up to +10C lots of days. We have however had biblical amounts of rain.....lots of flooded river valleys and such. The big concern here is...

    11 meter is very quiet?

Sorry I missed you! I've had only an hour or two on the radio all week. Life gets busy with other things sometimes..... I'm also dealing with another noisy powerline issue. Fortunately this one is a couple blocks away and is only affecting my A-99 vertical (which I only use for local talk)...

    Texas Ranger base

Ah yes, the pig returns once again, with yet another layer of lipstick applied. And the price.............have they lost their minds completely? No FM, same old subpar noise reduction, same ugly styling, and probably drifts on SSB like they all do. As Retro said above....UGH!

Unit 399 JJ in Medellin Colombia

That's really sad news! I had the good fortune to QSO with him on several occasions. He was a fine operator and he will be greatly missed by many. May your radio room in the hereafter be filled with the all the finest gear JJ......

How to broadband a 5/8 wave

That's awful. My Antron 99 does over 2 MHz with less than 1.8:1 SWR and my delta loop does even better than that. If you need more bandwidth than 1 MHz spread then 5/8 wave GP is not the antenna to use!

    Radioddity QT80 (6666 pro clone)

I've been wondering the same thing! My rule of thumb for AM is that max swing PEP should be no more than 4X the deadkey. If you're running the 6666PRO barefoot you should be good with 15 to 20 watts deadkey. That will give you swing to about 80 watts. And if you're intending to run an amp...
