Just an update. Vr803 did what i needed for low am carrier with rf control knob all the way to the left. I set it at 2w. I set vr13 with rf control all the way clockwise to 10w. The ssb alc was jacked so lowered that to about 21w ssb. Lots of audio not touching anything and forward mod. I think...

True enough Recon just using a mobile radio / battery. I figured it would be a good option to be able to give the stock power supply in the base a break of sorts being able to use an external power supply. Not really a requirment but a would be nice if worth the effort :) 73s

Thanks Nomad. This would explain the crazy gain on the radio and why the rf gain control is needed to be barely turned for all kinds of receive signals.

Hi, i currently use only mag mount antennas and have had very good results with an old wilson 1000 antenna. Im wondering if trying a center load antenna would gain even better results. I find that center load antennas usually are fixed mount and not usually seen used with a mag mount i guess...
