    Long wire antenna for shortwave

Stranded is stronger, got it. After running the #12 to the house should I continue with the #12 wire to the radio. How should I terminate the wire to plug it into the radio? I hope to get on this this weekend.

    Long wire antenna for shortwave

When running a 60' #12 insulated wire from a tree to the house can the insulated wire run with a #9 galv. guide wire, being the support wire?

OK I bought the PL-880. Listening to SW is sporadic, sometimes strong. Need an antenna. I can run from the house 60' to a tree, then another 20' to enter the room and another 15' to the radio. Can I use galv, unshielded wire (#9) then switch over to a shielded wire when it enters the house and...

I am not aware of that, using a variac. Hopefully somebody will jump in and add to it. I know lately with this Maine weather and low temps it takes me awhile to get up to running power.

Sounds like you have done this before. Not sure what a electrolytic cap looks like, should be easy to figure this out. I have worked on military and AT&T towers. Tubes in the 60's and watched all the changes over the last 50 years. My first step will be to get the chassis out of the case and do...

Just getting into SWL and just remembered that I had this in my barn. Looks clean, have not plugged it in yet. Anyone know if it is a good AM/FM/SW radio for listening?

Thanx. Rather than start at the end I will start at the radio. I got caught up in the idea that a longer wire would be better. However I really do not know what better is. Can I splice the antenna to add length to it? And I have read that the antenna connection at the radio should be coaxial to...

Antenna for a Tecsun PL-880 can the antenna be 100' to roof peak then drop 15' to a window, then 20' to the radio, at that point it would need to terminate into a 1/8" plug in.

Since my interest in SWL emerged I remembered that I had bought a radio at the dump auction years ago. No interest in SW at the timeL. i just like stuff! Just pulled it out of the barn to check it out. It is a Phillips Capella 604 Stereo. Looks good, needs some TLC on the outside.

OK, did my research, changed my mind several times, and have decided to go with the Tecsun PL-880. Anon-co out of Hong Kong (Ebay) was recommended on this post. I can get the PL-880 for $153.99 w/ extra battery and accessories. Next is the antenna.

Waiting for Kaito to get back on my offer ($149.99 Tecsun PL880) on Ebay. Sound like all I need is a roll of wire to hook up for great reception.

You mention a "long wire antenna" for SWl. Will that cover SSB?
