I had a similar (but not as severe) problem with my radio and amp in a Volvo 770 (big truck) Every time I would key up, all the dash lights and LED's would light up.
AA1QD is right - ground everything with braided ground strap....radio and amp chassis to body, doors to body, hood to body...
I ran a Galaxy 95 in a big truck, installed it with both leads (fused) direct to battery, but no chassis ground.
It would occasionally do strange things when I keyed up - light the dash LED's, or cause a hum thru the stereo speakers, etc....
When I grounded the radio chassis, all...
On mine, the stinger didn't fit that tight. I tried sealing it with RTV, etc....finally just drilled a small (1/16") drain hole.
Other than a small issue like that, the antenna seemed pretty good.
I had one on a big truck. It seemed to work pretty well, but was a heavy antenna that required a strong mount.
The only negative thing - it tends to fill with water.
I have tried it, it seems to work pretty well - especially if everyone else in the vehicle wants to hear the radio traffic.
Make sure that your talkback is turned off...
Doing an installation/modification, and need stuff...antenna, cable, etc.....plus, I need someone who knows what he is doing to check the results when finished.
Suggestions would be appreciated.
I am installing a Magnum S9/X-Force 200HD in a van, and want to put a meter in line to read output - which means between the amp and the antenna.
I have been looking at the Autek WM-1, Radio Shack MTA-20, Palstar PM-2000, etc.
Which is better..? Is there another that I haven't found...
I have run one for several years now - first in my big truck then in my van. I do not have any mods done to it, but had it peaked and tuned by a very good tech.
I run it thru a Palomar 250 kicker. Good receive, clear transmit, no problems. Very good radio for the price.
Another factor is how the mike works with your particular voice. I have tried the Astatic Red Devil as well as the 636, and for my voice, these mikes possibly have too much noise cancelling - I was told that I sounded "not very loud".....but the 575 or the RK56 really works for me.
The...
I have a 959 with an Astatic 575 / Palomar 225 / Wilson 5000.
I must agree with the above posts - when set up by an expert, great radio for the money!
This is probably the king of noise cancelling mikes. In an extreme environment (noisy, dusty, etc) this is the one that will work.....and live.
Be careful not to have mike gain up too high.....
