I had 5049 Arkansas on a qso earlier this afternoon. I've only had a few contacts in Arkansas and this was several years ago. Loving the short skip!

11 meter is very quiet?

Good Morning All, planning on hopefully being on the air around 2pm today on 37 and 38 LSB if the conditions cooperate up my way, currently on the Propagation report it is showing Fair for 10-11 meters,of course that can always change,we shall see...........

skip is out for now. limb hit my sirrio 2008 and upset swr. hope to get help soon to get it down n see if fixable. using my hated a99 at 10 feet off the ground. might talk across the road
That's too bad about the Sirio, but if your A-99 is only getting across the road something is seriously wrong! I've talked worldwide on A-99's along with lots of other antennas..............
I'll 2nd that,I used a Antron 99 back in the very early 90's until Aug of 2003 and then bought my 2nd one in July of 2020,my first one I gave to a friend since I had moved into a town house at the time and couldn't use it anymore,in both cases I never had a problem talking world wide with either one.

Same here. I've made contacts all over the world with the a99. We have a local who had a qso with a guy in NY while using a handheld. It's all about conditions.
Local is different, but I still easily get 20 miles with the a99, 36 feet up, and our elevation around 2000 ft. Local depends more on your terrain.
Short skip again today. I'll take it! lol...
If you're thinking about getting a new antenna, I bought the Sirio Gainmaster, and so far it's been a winner! I can easily tell the difference between it and the a99. Mainly on the receive. Will it take the west Texas wind? We shall see. It's only been one day but if it snaps apart I'll let you know.
Let's hope it doesn't.
Edit: SWRs on the Gain master blew my mind.
A flat 1.0 from 26.045 to 29.355 Using two different MFJ meters, getting the exact readings.

My first A99 was great.but my second A 99 is crap.from finish to length all diffrent.
My daughter came down n we took the sirio down .limb hit it at second joint .broke screws and let mast slip inside other mast to next joint pulled it out where it belonged marked it then cut slot like first stage. Put 2 screws in it and a band hose clamp like first stage.put it back up n hey swr was like before the limb hit. Other than that,my 2008 has been working fine for 3 ywars n we have had some 90+ mph winds last 2 years n its stood well.
Id be hard pressed to buy diffrent brand. Hope id get my tower up.id prolly buy new 2008 n put on top n old 1 midway up.
Shot lots of skip with it.
i had both on short poles 10 ft to base of antenna both on what i call good coax. abot 3 ft apart. on coax swith you hear strong signal,switch to a99 n weak.
the minute i opened a 99 number 2 i seen lower quality

figure of speech.its range is not half as good as the 2008. but like i said first 1 was decent till lighting scattered it all over the yard.

I agree 100%. I have an original ANTRON 99. Talks and receives great. Best SWR with a steel whip on top. It broke when it came down in a storm. Bought a SOLARCOM 99 and it was a piece of crap. Fixed the original and it's our local vertical now. I wish I still had a Francis Amazer. The only antenna that would beat the steel whip on top. Anyone have an Amazer for sale ??

Years ago after calling every CB shop I could find I ran across a music store in South Carolina that sold CB stuff, he had 2 Francis Triple quarter waves for sale and said he would take $20 for both because he had been sitting on them forever.
I wanted them, and when I told him I was in California, he was kinda shocked.
" Can't you order them from Francis out there?"
I told him the company sold and they were not made anymore....
Shipping suddenly went to $20 each bahahahah
I didn't care, $30 each got 2 delivered to my door, that must have been around 2006 and I have never seen another new one since.
I broke one several years ago, got stuck under the carport and snapped about a foot off, there are pictures here somewhere that I posted for Marconi when he was trying to model the antenna and the 3 individual wires inside.

I know, I will probably never find one. Years ago when I was in Georgia I found a cb/electronics store in South Georgia that had some I was working 6 days a week, and he was closed on Sundays. He wouldn't ship. So - never got them. I should have paid someone to drive down to get them. Regreted ever since. I'll keep seaching. A friend I know has a few but won't turn them loose. May if I bug him enough he will sell them just to shut me up. LOL.
BTW - Did Marconi ever get the Amazer model done ??

I've been off my feet and off the air for the past 4 days after getting my knee injections. Doc said to take it easy on the knees for 4-5 days. I'm going stir-crazy sitting on my ass all day.
Tomorrow I'll crawl down to the shack and hit it around 10am. I hope that I have some luck. 73.
