    Rwb,
Does the grey cord that came with it not plug into the socket on the back of the radio?

check mic? They can be first culprit id check.those cords flex n get pulled.in time wires break.and sometimes the speaker parts go bad.others might have a better idea but id sure check the mic n cord first

    Rwb,
Your Roadtalker has a unique power cord (Shared by a J.C. Penney AC/DC SSB as well I believe). Finding the DC cord that will mate with it could be a chore. I suppose it is possible to remove the radios covers and trace out which 2 pins of the 6 pin cord supply DC to the board only and make your own cord to plug into those 2 pins on the radio.

If there is room in the chassis (doubtful with the transformer installed?)a standard Uniden 3 prong connector may be added to use for DC only?

    Good Luck
