Okay, I have personal experience with IC-706MKIIG, IC-7000 and FT-100D. These are all older radios, but of these three, I like the MKIIG the best. I have had it a long time and did use it in my mobile.
706 works on AM only with optional filter. Otherwise it's garbage tx/rx

My MKIIG works on AM, no optional filter. I have no idea what you are talking about. 705 is QRP....
According to ICOM there are no parts available to repair a 706MKIIG. I have a dead one sitting on the shelf.
It's the stock filters, if I remember correctly when in AM mode you have two choices, the FM filter Or the SSB filter.
Bill posted the modifications here somewhere on install of the AM filter.
