Like I always say Lonewolf; "I you don't believe in something with conviction, then you will likely fall for just about anything."
You know, if your worst fears were to ever come true, won't you still have your gun so as to do something about it. If that happens, then look me up and I will get my gun and we will together go get the SOB's.
I figure too many of our young have sacrificed too much for me to sit by and let any government take my freedom away. I think all politicians bear watching in everything they do. Just remember the old testimony from the Holy Bible, “…you will know them by their fruits.”
I never trusted George’s old daddy when he was in office, and in particular when he lied to us saying, “read my lips.” When I heard that said my father was right by my side and he said, “Son you just heard a lie spoken from our own President! From now on always be cautious of everything that man says, for the truth is not in him.” Loan wolf, I hope not, but it may turn out one day that we find out it is always true, the old saying, “Like father like son!” If that be, then I think I will know for sure that the devil is live and well in Washington, and I hope they both go to hell.
Now if you ever find out that you were wrong in your opinions about our wonderful nation in spite of rich men taking advantage of us all, will you have the convictions to say you were wrong or if we find out they are deceiving us and will take back our freedoms will you be with me?
It is advisable to be cautious in all endeavors, but my friend, don't let this become your obsession. Obsessions of this sort will feed on the soul and your good senses, and it will destroy your good sense of judgment. Just like all great leaders in history who ultimately fell for the conspiracy theories, they destroyed themselves in worry and misdirection.
Stay informed, but keep a level head where the words of men are concerned.

Marconi, wow, graet post. Good response to the fearmongers. One thing I just never undestood was, if someone has so much contempt and mistrust in their heart toward those who are elected to lead, (I, like Marconi, think all elected officals need to be watched like a hawk ), then why in the world do they put so much belief in what some other person, or people say?

I agree, great post, and you as well FastEddy. While I personally think Bush has missed the mark in some areas (illegal aliens to be specific), I agree with most of his policies and actions. To compare him to Hitler is, to me, unforgivable. There are no comparisons that can be successfully made. Now, I didn't bother to read the article originally linked to, but I've read a number of those literary wet-farts comparing Bush to Hitler, and the sole basis seems to be the Patriot act and related privacy issues. As for the Patriot act allowing taps of phone conversations of suspected terrorists, I'm all for it. The act specifically stipulates conversations between a party in the US and a party outside of the US, NOT intra-US calls. If someone is suspected of being a terrorist, or suspected of aiding terrorism in some way, then by all means, listen in. If it turns out they're innocent, the the taps will stop. If they turn out to be what they were suspected of being, then we've lessened the possibility of another attack on our soil.

Hey Loadstone, you chose your handle, but don't look for it to save you, and for sure don't figure the Loadstone to reveal the truth no matter how much you wave it around. Look what happened to old Orpheus as he looked back thinking he had outsmarted the devil himself in trying to save his wretch from hell. Even though the devil told Orpheus the fact about not looking back, Orpheus followed is own mutterings about the value in following the lies in the Loadstone and he did him own self in to damnation. When you read to understand you have to get the whole story or you are mislead, and remember if you don't stand for something worthwhile, then you will likely fall for anything.

To the America haters and the Bush haters, I pose this rhetorical situation.
Lets go back in time, say 5 years. Your hate for the greatest nation in the world was small but growing. You had an oppurtunity to go somewhwere else and leave this warmongering, meddling country and live in a country where that is not the foreign policy (your opinion). You are welcomed by the leaders because they too share the disdain for America. All goes well for a while, until some of your neighbors disappear. You, being the cynic that you are, start to ask questions. You are told that it is none of your concern, and mind your own affairs. That doesn't set well with you either. So you secretly exchange emails and use internet forums, not to unlike this one, to accuse your new home countries government of the unspeakable, "arresting, detaining, torturing, and even killing its own citizens". This continues for a while, and your unhappiness for your new home grows.
Then one night your door gets kicked in, and government officals arrest you, your wife, and your children. You are taken away, blindfolded and handcuffed. Every time you open your mouth it is met with the butt of a rifle. The next day you are lead into an outside area. Your blindfold is removed and you see a lot of people you know. The people you have been exchanging emails and opinions with on the internet. You also see your family, standing in a line against a brick wall. You watch in horror as a firing squad executes everyone, and their bodies are dragged away to be buried in a mass grave. Thats when you realize you are lined up in a row just like they were. Welcome to your new home, which will soon be a mass grave, with every other person that dares to speak or even set at a computer and express opinions and beliefs contrary to that government and its leaders.

This is not a flame to anyone, just a little story to make you think about your motives and opinions, of how you look at this country. A country where it is possible to do what you do. Express opinions and have the ability to read and exchange information, even if it is very critical of its government, foreign policies, and even of the President himself. Think too, while you are spreding your hate America, Bush is hitler, and all other liberal radical conspiracy therories, about the thousands of men and women who made that ulimate sacrifice and shed their blood so you would have the right to do what you do.
No, I am not a Koolaid drinker, that blindly follows, but I do love this country and all it stands for. Freedom, Liberty, and oppurtunity. I would gladly stand next to you and fight for those God given rights.

And I will add this to the thread...
Back on September 11, 2001, I was employed as a police officer in a town that has a nuclear power plant in it.
After everyone realized what was happening, our department was requested to guard the entrance to this plant, and I was assigned there on Sept. 12.
As people drove past the plant, they were honking their car horns and waving at me and the other officer there with me.
People were showing their support for their country, their local law enforcement agency, and for their appreciation of their liberty.
Those feelings were pretty short lived, and everyone went back to being self involved and now people are bitching about our involvement in Iraq. Many are calling the President of the United States a butcher or comparing him to Adolph Hitler ( however, many of you saw no fault in the former President engaging in extramarital sex within the offices of the White House).
Well, I say this to all of you. If you are so damned angry about it, do something other than bitch about it. This reminds me of the Viet Nam era, when troops were asked to serve, and others stayed in the comfort of their homes complaining about the war, rather than supporting their troops and their nation.
I believe the federal government is too big, and that the welfare state is out of control, but I also believe that if America were not taking action in Iraq, you would have more deaths at the hands of terrorists on American soil.
I have personally faced incredible risks and dangers in my life, and have come out triumphant. I have overcome fears and apprehensions that would cripple many of you. There are tens of thousands in this country who have done the same, defending your freedoms. I am sickened and ashamed by the way some of you feel it is enough just to point out your dislikes, as if that is all that is required of you.
I understand the Patriot movement very well. I understand the philosophies of the Sovreign citizen. I understand the failings of our democracy, but I also understand that a nation divided will fall.
Get off your ass and do something that you believe in, rather than just post links to someone else's work. Obviously, the handful of terrorists that attacked the US on 9/11 were able to disrupt a nation of millions by their actions. What have you done to change the world?

Calling those who are critical of the government and it's policies "america haters" is bullshit. That's your first mistake, and it is a big one. It is only your opinion that such people hate america, and in my case, you are dead wrong, and I accept your apology, should one be forthcoming.
Another point: America is not the only country where you are free to speak out, criticize, demonstrate, without fear of reprisals. You should know this, but you are so spun and propagandized, you won't aadmit it. There are alot of countries where rights such as those enumerated in the bill of rights are the law, and some countries extend even more freedom to their citizens than this country does. And the very notion that someone who is critical of the president should leave this country is the most un-american thing I can think of.
One other thing. Virtually every anti-war, anti-bush peice that I have posted is coming from a conservative/liberatarian point of view, not liberal. The true conservative view of war and government is simply not represented in your or DTB Radios posts in this thread--the true conservative hates war, unless it is truly in defense of this country, which bush's wars clearly are anything but. They are wars of aggression and conquest. The true conservative knows that warfare is the chief mechanism by which citizens loose their freedoms, not protect them. The soldiers over in Iraq are NOT fighting for my freedom or anyone else's. The last time any US soldier was fighting for anyone's freedom was WWII.
And in response to DTB_Radio. You are badly misinformed. The Patriot Act has nothing to do with the warrantless spying that the President has admitted to. You are yet another victim of spin and propaganda. To do what the President says he was doing, that is intercepting and eavesdropping the communications of American citizens, requires a warrant, under the 1978 FISA statute. There is also the 4th amendment, which also says that there must be a warrant for any search.
If the president wanted to wiretap calls coming from or going out to people suspected of terrorism, he had the legal means to do so under FISA. FISA specifically says it is to be the sole means by which the government can do this sort of surviellance. You can even get a warrant from the FISA court AFTER THE FACT, so you have no "there isn't time to get a warrant" excuse. Since it's inception, the FISA court has only rejected 3 or 4 requests out of tens of thousands..
The only conclusion one can really draw is that the president knew that what he authorised would NOT have been approved by the court, and would therefore be illegal.
Sorry, but that is a serious abuse of power, clearly abridging the fourth amendment and the FISA statute.

Bottom line is that we are safer as a nation TODAY, than we were 5 years ago. Thats all that matters to me. This thread started out as a vitriolic attack on the US President, plane and simple. Even if you detractors were right, and you are not, how do you justify the criticism on a personal level? If someone was to break into your home and take and do what ever they wished with you and you loving family, what would you do, just hunker down and come up with 25 good reasons why this could happen to you and look to bring forgiveness without first administering out justice first. Do you have so little confidence in our way of life to ignore the fact that captive and oppressed people all over the world aspire to come here for the freedoms and opportunities that they so much desire? Even the world to our south is straining at our southern borders to gain entry at almost any cost. Souls that come here to the USA to enjoy and prosper, yet complain all the while, that there is this effort in the US to change their culture, and they don’t like it. How quickly we forget about the threats of the great and powerful Soviet nations against us in the cold war era saying we will bury you. You bucked President Reagan in his determined efforts to make sure that never happened. His plan worked though and you are better off for it and you still complain in petty ways. When Kennedy made his “Ask Not What your Country can do for you…” remarks many years ago and brought a divided nation to solemn unity for a short while. With his simple words and in my mind at least, that was the last vestiges of when the great Democratic party of this wonderful nation completely lost its way, by taking on the mantel of liberalism in its rawest forms and trying its best to disseminate socialism on our public. Did any of that scheme work, you know it did not. Not even one program is still effectively in place. It nearly broke our standard of living, our trust in government, and it did break what history may deem someday as probably one of the most ruthless and strong-minded Presidents in our history, Lyndon Johnson. The same cynicism also likely destroyed, probably one of the world’s most notable leaders of effective foreign relations and diplomacy, Richard Nixon. It probably also got the pathetic excuses for Presidents elected, Jimmy Carter and Bill, "I didn't have sexual relations with that woman..." Clinton.
It has already been quoted here, but is worth quoting again in part, “A nation divided will fall…!” What we have here is a cultural war and the folks in the US, for whatever reasons, have split in their determination to a solution. Are we at an impasse in this battle to define our future, maybe? And every excuse imaginable is being waged to support a flawed scheme for diversity at all cost and a mindset that if it feels good it has to be good.
Try reading this piece for some simple and holism direction for a change and try a perspective from another point of view, if you dare.

Hey 821, what could you possibly have against nationalism? Is that a from of loyalty that mankind has always desired and set on high like family, God, and country? Oh, now that I said that I understand why. It is fine to be diligent and untrusting of government, the keeps us as the founding fathers intended, but all of you Pharisees need to get a life.
BTW, didn't you guys get your share of the tax breaks that GW gave us all? Oh! you didn't? Well you probably need to get a job paying some into rather than sucking out of, and then you will surely get some back. Where do you think this current day prosperity comes from, letting your local, state, and federal representatives spend the money on all them good ideas that government comes up with or are all those ideas GW's ideas too?
What were you saying as the aggression against us in the last 30 years took place even within our own borders? It is clear to me that some of you guys must feel that any aggression against a free nation is justified simply because of the appearance of greed and avarice of its free citizens. There has to be something wrong with that picture in your little bitty minds if this nation, standing up against injustice everywhere it exists, has to make excuses for being free. Now this what I consider a ridiculous attitude when you look at the wonderful influences of our nation in every port of call on this earth? The whole world is better off, even in the remaining communists countries the influence is changing them in spite of their oppressions. Would you chance a stint living there? No, I didn’t think so.
How quickly we forget about the threats of the great and powerful Soviet nations against us in the cold war era saying we will bury you. You bucked President Reagan in his determined efforts to make sure that never happened. His plan worked though and you are better off for it and you still complain in petty ways. When Kennedy made his “Ask Not What your Country can do for you…” remarks many years ago and brought a divided nation to solemn unity for a short while. With his simple words and in my mind at least, that was the last vestiges of when the great Democratic party of this wonderful nation completely lost its way, by taking on the mantel of liberalism in its rawest forms and trying its best to disseminate socialism on our public. Did any of that scheme work, you know it did not. Not even one program is still effectively in place. It nearly broke our standard of living, our trust in government, and it did break what history may deem someday as probably one of the most ruthless and strong-minded Presidents in our history, Lyndon Johnson. The same cynicism also likely destroyed, probably one of the world’s most notable leaders of effective foreign relations and diplomacy, Richard Nixon. It probably also got the pathetic excuses for Presidents elected, Jimmy Carter and Bill, "I didn't have sexual relations with that woman..." Clinton.
It has already been quoted here, but is worth quoting again in part, “A nation divided will fall…!” What we have here is a cultural war and the folks in the US, for whatever reasons, have split in their determination to a solution. Are we at an impasse in this battle to define our future, maybe? And every excuse imaginable is being waged to support a flawed scheme for diversity at all cost and a mindset that if it feels good it has to be good.
Try reading this piece for some simple and holism direction for a change and try a perspective from another point of view, if you dare.
