I'm working on an old Icom IC-290 2 meter all mode , and the adjustable USB inductor is bad, it's L8 in the service manual . The manual says that the part number is LS-149A, and the inductor says 23749A on it. I've been searching the internet for a few weeks now, and I haven't able to find any information anywhere on either number. When I've tried to cross reference it on any of the sites I've looked for it on , I haven't had any luck that way either . I was wondering if anyone here has any idea where I might be able to track one of these inductors down at .... or maybe which part number would make a good replacement for it . The radio works great aside from this inductor , and we all know that USB is the one that's used on 2 meter all mode .

Thanks in advance.

This is a pc board part, so the size and shape are critical. Has to line up with holes in the pc board. A way to measure its inductance would be a starting point.

This is one of the most frustrating kinds of part to track down for an old radio. Every one might as well be a custom-made part. The internal specs for inductance, tuning range or the value of an internal capacitor just don't exist outside the design engineer's file cabinet. Finding the inductance value would be the starting point. Odds are it's a simple two-terminal inductor. Might be easier to substitute than a more-complex IF or RF transformer. What frequency crystal does this thing adjust?

The physical package of L8 looks to be the 10mm "Toko" style coil found in every Uniden and RCI-made CB of the 70s and 80s, and lots of them made since. The pc layout pic in the service manual isn't all that clear, but I'll guess that the side of the coil with two pins is where the coil inside is conected. The frequency is 10.7493 MHz. Darn close to the 10.695 found in RCI-made radios. If you had a way to measure the inductance of L8, that might point to which of the carrier-frequency trimmer coils in a junk Galaxy or RCI radio might substitute.

Kinda out on a limb with this, but it might work.
