The West Mountain Target tune works well but I didn't like all those wires going to the control head. The Tune matic lite is a good compromise for semi auto-tuning and less extra cables.

Are you using an FT-891?

The 891 requires extra cumbersome nonsense, but is a fine mobile.

I don't recall the brand of aftermarket antenna controller that I used but it was easy to operate.I never used the switch that came with the TARHEEL II just the other controller. It was quick & required just one push of the tuner button on my ICOM 7000 & it was done.

That 32" antenna whip was designed for complete coverage for 10-80m so a longer whip will lose tuning of some upper bands. My guess with a 56" whip your highest band will be 17m. Your efficiency increases some but the trade off is losing the upper bands.

When parked, I'll put on a telescoping 17ft whip for much improved efficiency on 40 and 80m but I even lose 20m unless I collapse the whip down a section.

You will get everything except 6 meters with the 56" whip.Been there & done that & it makes a big difference on 40 & 80 meters.

Not a bad trade off, that's similar to my Little Tarheel HP when I replaced the stock 3ft with a 5ft.
I lost 6m but gained 60m with nearly all the coil used.

I got the 56" loading up good on 80/40 now. I don't like losing 6 meters. I've been making a few contacts mobile lately. I also use our local repeater. Oh well, I'm satisfied with 80/40, as that's the majority of where I'm going to operate.

6 meters is cool, but it's even cooler mobile. Maybe I can rig up a quick whip change.

Everything is a rough install. Now I need to get my Rigrunner hooked up and tidy everything up.

Airbags. The reason given for no dash top mounts.

Solution: remove them. The 3-point belt is what matters.

And, then the passenger warning sticker:

"Everything" will clear the bags. Rigrunner is just laying there. It's going down on the hump. The meter isn't going to be installed.

60 meters is a great HF Band for mobile use also.I prefer it over 40 or 75 meters.
