Pagers .... Now Handie Talkies

Just over 50 years ago I had a job that included servicing Motorola "Pageboy" pocket pagers. They were about the size of a pack of king-size cigarettes but a little thinner, not quite as wide. By the time ten years had passed, pagers were a fraction of that size. Gotta wonder just how in hades do you hide any useful amount of explosive in a volume that small.
I'm baffled as to how they did it.

Perhaps a backdoor into the protection chip on the Lithium battery, I have also seen reports of solar system explosions in Lebanon.

Just hack the firmware to disable the battery management system, the phone will do the rest.
Glad they did not boobytrap CB Radios. We can start the rumor that any radio with the mod limiter cut or removed should be turned over to a radio professional for proper disposal.
If or when things get nasty with certain countries in asia we best check our new tech radios..... we don't want mosfets filling our shacks with magic smoke if they can trigger them.

I heard that sometime after manufacturing and before delivery of the pagers, Mossad replaced the batteries with explosives. Turn on your new pager and get a surprise.
I suppose they could have done the same with the radios...

The detonations were reportedly synchronized to all occur at the same time. If one of them blows before the others, it could ruin the surprise, so to speak.

The "turn on and boom" was speculation on my part. That was a sly move to sync the blasts.
