Portable power and radio kit - home build?

is that a 50 cal box?
It is actually a "Aircraft Flare Can" same width/height as a 50 cal can, but about 3" deeper

For reference, this is the same size can with B-Tech 25x4 and a 12v/30a power supply

Ugh ohhhhh. Look what arrived today :)

That’s a 20mm M548 large ammo can (at least as per the eBay listing).

I’ve been playing around with box layout and was wondering if I could get your feedback on this version?

Any products you think which are unnecessary or redundant? or perhaps there’s a better version of a product I should use? How about Air flow design? Power vs rf separation?

thanks!

Just my input, if you haven't already built it..

I would put the "Void" (air intake) at the bottom, fan at the top... Heat raises....

and you only need 1 fan.... it will move the air out of that box very well

Since you are not running a lot of RF power, I would worry too much about Power/RF interaction

The Midland is redundant... the UV-50X will cover 70cm Ham/GRMS/FRS/2M Ham/MURS freqs... is in legal? no... will anyone know? no

Here are some progress pics. Radio cut outs will come post Santa day, and wiring will finish just after.

Has anyone built a home brew radio/ battery / solar charge / dc power supply case?

I’m thinking of building a radio in ammo can type setup but could use some help with products / design “gotchas” to get started

any lessons learned you all have would be good to hear!
i built a solar generator back in 2007.
it worked pretty good, and ran it entirely on 12v..

:)

all parts minus the charge controller were had from a local kragen auto parts.

the charge controller was bought from one "silicon solar" out of florida.

all in all the build was around 350$.
