Have the PM3-LK, a PM3 will do the same. Quality without The big price. You can call them and discuss your needs, if they are open. This crap going on has shut down everything. You can find those same converters on Amazon for a good price. They are also able to be run continues voltage of desired setting.

Running the MegaWatt S-350-12 for supply to Palomar LD 450. I like those MegaWatt's a lot. MegaWatt brand don't buy the cheap Chinese version.

Definitely look at the MegaWatt p/s. The S-700 12 is 50 amps continuous @14v. This will ensure a little headroom above your needed 40 amps.

You can get a 60amp dell server power supply for under $20.0 on eBay
Been using one for years.... No problem

The trick is getting a server supply with enough documentation (OEM or community) that allows easy modifications

We know that, but which ones? How to boost voltage to 13+ ?
Can they be wired in parallel or series and how?
Good documentation counts for something.

The powermax 55 has a good price but are the adjustable.Also the megawatt looks good to

Unless your ambition is a "power supply project", I would stick with the MegaWatt.

The cheap solution will require labor and good luck both to make it work.

The simple solution always costs more.

Here's how it worked out for me:

Under 50A I use a Megawatt that is the next size up from the anticipated load.

Over 50A I use a Powermax 100A.
