Uh. First, how’d ya get Mr X chrome job. Secondly, is that gate guard who I think it is?

And third, that $1700, that total between the two or you meaning just the guard?

I bought a Cobra 139XLR at a fest years ago, the plan was to convert to 10 meters. Got it home, opened it and there was a huge hole in the middle of the board. Carried that rig to hamfests for a couple of years in case I ran into the seller.

I’m being as inventive as I think is appropriate. None of it true.

    FCC92CB9-EBF1-46B5-A1D0-23CB09221EEE.jpeg

$900 HAS been paid to the gate guard (yeah, him) for a 955.

I just made a guess about X price for above. Fabuloso!

$1,700 is chicken scratch. I’ve EASILY spent more the last two years.

And (slight exaggeration) only my tool box, supply bags and Undertaker-approved Antenna Museum Rack are anything to show for it, ha!

Latest: hydraulic crimper. 6-awg ain’t gonna crimp itself.

Started year by getting an ft450D. Barely used. But heftiest sum ever for a radio for me.

(You want a fast car you don’t start with the engine. You do, and it sits till the rest is ready. Shoulda got the optional dust cover. Embroidered).

I haven’t even plugged it in.

So, to the topic question: No, there are no bad investments with amateur radio. Only experiential learning.

    Tap, tap, tap . . . .

(Okay, it’s bad if: it involves chrome and/or reverse-engineered alien tech from a guy with crooked glasses and tiny teeth).

Yours won’t play La Llorona, will it? Or, La Paloma. Worst of all, no Vals Sobre las Olas. Eugenia León or Vienna Statsoper

You’d recognize each, is the pity.

Why, on mine I have Perfidia as performed by:

    Lupita Palmero

    Xavier Cugat

    Glenn Miller

    Nat King Cole (in Japanese)

and the heavy hitter, Billy May

Every weekday as Dallas/Fort Worth traffic comes to a crawl at precisely 1726 I play every rendition.

They beg me, amigo, BEG me. Every day I am telling you.

So every day I brush my hair, adjust my collar, lean back to light a green Dominican . . and hit the first switch. 500-watts

    Ahhh

W9, I know that’s a quote post, just referencing the pic.

How in the heck do you know what switch does what?? And I know I don’t want Taco on my radio...don’t want a grim reminder of that one time at the Bell.

https://Youtu.be/mkqJXB1_8PsBad Investment = low quality gear. Connectors that fall apart. Coax that was crushed who knows when. Etc. And having paid
Just a story. But close to what I’d hear in South Texas.

The watts number is the usual exaggerated claim.

No one in DFW around 5:30 pm is gonna outblast him. Great song though
