I guess how I look at this is what matters to the customer can be looked at in some simple way of - I want to talk to my friends.
So, I tune to what they want, and in many instances (nearly all), they are abandoning sensitivity for selectivity to obtain their neighbor they want to chat with. The noise is what it is to them, they just want their roundtable - for they are stuck in an environment that is so full of noise and chatter, they just want - what they want - and that is to talk.
Many of them "upgrade" later sometimes by radio - but mostly by antenna and station setup. Get more up there to get out there better so they can get the best performance for what they are dealing with around them.
To go out and buy a Stryker just because it's better, is relative. I can do things to a Cobra 19Plus to improve the rejection of a splatterbox from the Superb Owl
But I can't remove what that (gosh darn) station does to the frequency they are using because of the other stations emissions are on, and around the same frequency.
So they're in for a big disappointment - unless all they wanted was the fancy upgrade. Else, the radio they left behind is just as good, if not better than, the replacement they parted their cash for.
So if it makes the customer happy, HD and them are going to do their song and dance - so I think you're doing the right thing by trying to expose their work - just don't be suprized if they only swapped a few parts to make those claims.
(I did do a set of posts around the Asymmetrical Mods thread back at CB Tricks showing a bunch of mods others do that "brand" them and show their work. Nothing big but it is worth mentioning; that once their efforts are exposed others will try to copy it)
