Would be interesting to see inside of the Galaxy amp.
At any rate, wonder if the CTE Mosquito schematic is similar. Probably not the same, but should be a fairly simple circuit in either of them.
My memory is a little hazy, but I think I built that one like 15 years ago and it worked okay in a 146GTL, I’m almost certain that is the same one I built. I made it on perfboard (or maybe the board with the solder pads), with a bunch of jumper wires, which mistakes are easy to do if you make it...
I agree it looks pretty typical for a lot of CB amps like this going back many years.
With a decent install, I doubt the cable will move around to cause any problems. Now, if you just toss the amp in the back of your SUV / car / truck and floor it at every stop light with this thing sliding...
Yeah some of the resistors do look a bit discolored when you zoom in.
I remember getting a blown smaller gold color VoCom at a hamfest for a couple dollars like 15+ years ago. I built a small four IRF520 amp with it back then and ran it at 100w peak for the CB.
Was in the basement to look at a bicycle I have down there to see what I needed for it, and spotted the Royce off in the corner, so figured I'd snap a photo. I thought it was actually in a different area, was like "oh, there's that Royce base" lol.
My first CB as a young teen in like 1999 – 2000 was a 1977 Royce 1-621 base. Used it for like 5 years and it worked well, someone also modified it so it had 40 channels below one and had like 15 channels above 40. The power supply eventually blew a transistor which I swapped out with something I...
Not sure what you need to drive with it, and I’ve only ever used one so very limited experience; most look rather low output. I use a Esinkin BT Adapter with powered bookshelf monitors and other audio amplifiers with RCA inputs. I’ve never measured the output so perhaps won’t do what you want...
Yeah I tinkered with a lot of these back then in junk old amp heatsinks, biggest I did like this was 8 520's, 4 parallel per side, I have a photo of it somewhere. I liked the 4x520 amps for low power / reliability and used one for years.
I built a cheapo MOSFET amp over a decade ago to experiment with on a 959. Haven’t used it in years and it got kinda rusty laying around. It was AB biased, small board in front of the input transformer, and a small keying board by the relay, tried to keep it compact. No photos of it on the radio...
Thanks for looking as well. I seen that, but it’s in Italy and it will be like $90, sadly I don’t think the radio is worth that much on a cable, they are not really expensive radios as a complete set. There’s another cable in Canada for the FT-200, but it’s like $145 total. I’ll likely hard wire...
Thought I’d see if anything out there comes up for a bargain, doesn’t hurt to try.
Anyway, got an old Henry Tempo One without the power supply to radio cord, so looking for that. It is an 11-pin octal style. I know the radio is the Yaesu FT-200, and also was made for the Sommerkamp brand...
If someone can't comprehend voltage rating of capacitors, meaning they can't do a simple search to learn, they should not be replacing capacitors or any parts. It is not difficult in 2021, to find an electronics forum or such and ask about capacitor voltage ratings and if going higher is okay (a...
Yeah I do believe they are much like the Cobra 25 LTD and that schematic should do the job, though been a long time since messing with any. The PC66 I also believe may be the correct schematic.
At $4 you really can’t go wrong, working or not. If not stated it’s a 50/50 chance of it working. I’d...
We used FM, allowed or not, when any of the locals got the urge. I'll also say that most of the locals, well basically all of them, had FM on one radio or another, and it never sounded very good for local chit chat despite being FM, also did not work well since guys were spread all over and...
I also find it hard to believe a 0.001uf capacitor would have any effect on audio across speaker wire. That cap is used for keeping RF off, or at least minimizing RF on the speaker / wires / audio circuit, not shunting audio treble frequencies. I would transplant the capacitor to the new speaker...
I've never been on Facebook and have zero desire to join "groups" there, but sounds no different than actually talking on CB radio. If you think back when CB had tons of local operator on all hours of the day / night, there was a ton of misinformation constantly spouted, I heard it all the time...
