Very cool HaminX. ;)
I'd love to see it...and will give you my real life results vs. your software. But in the mean time, I really didn't want or mean to hijack this thread...and don't want it to go that direction. So we can start another thread down the road later. ;)
Yes it does...or rather, certainly did compared to wire beams I've built. ;)
I'd be curious to know how many you guys have made and tested with tubing over wire to where you are so confident?
This pic was taken during heavy winds (50+ mph)...so it's not 100% straight. It's...
I run a dual polarity tubular Moxon beam for 10, 11, & 12 meters, and I'm going to make one for horizontal 17 meters (which I'm hoping will cover me for 15 & 20 meters), too. Then I have my 1/2 wave inverted V for 40 meter. No tuner yet (as I haven't needed one) but will get one sooner or...
Re: best antenna
Such as what? Please be specific so us old timers can learn.
Exactly what antennas have you compared it to? Honestly Marven, I'm not putting them down either but all the folks I've known (which there's only been a couple) had never even owned a beam before that...
I have one of these I've been using for awhile at my office/shop. For what it is, it works pretty well IMO. Cheap to build, and reasonably broad banded. I also used some RG8x that I had laying around. I have mine as a sloper now, but can easily mount it any way I want...including low. Not a...
It's probably okay. Clean up the SO239 connection, attach it to a pole, throw a radio and SWR meter to it and check. If it's not been through hell and back it'll probably fine. Just a guess though.
;)
Maybe it's just me (or the angle of the pic?), but it appears that the non-driven element is smaller (aka director element?). Is this true? I'd think you'd see better performance extending that element longer to make it a reflector rather than a director (if it's shorter).
And indeed, I...
First off, welcome back. Your avatar alone constitutes a welcome! :D
Secondly I don't know squat about most of the stuff you've mentioned...as I still run the older stuff myself (including the D104's). I would however suggest you consider looking at the I-10k or Wolf antennas as well. Maco...
A dipole is versitile, too...and costs a fraction of the price. Those are (end fed) dipoles...nothing more. For the money I think there are better performers, that's all.
;)
Heck, just about anything would work...including a simple coaxial or wire dipole. I'm not a huge fan of the fiberglassed antennas (aka A99, Imax, etc.) but they'd work too. And I agree, a good dummy load would probably be even better.
Just my $.02
Should buff right out...what are you guys talking about? :D
After all, it's a Rubicon...and the first scratch should be the worst.
Time for a flat fender (IMHO) 8)
