    new guy..

Get Android Phones and use TiKL. It's a walkie talkie app that uses the cell phone's data connection. You can talk to multiple people at a time.

ANYONE FROM THE FORUM USING ECHOLINK??

Yes. I can connect to the server, I just can't get any audio. I've had audio problems before with other programs, but didn't care enough to address them. This might get me to take a little time...or I can always set this up on a laptop I have with Windows on it that I use for things I can't...

ANYONE FROM THE FORUM USING ECHOLINK??

I've validated. I have EL up and running in Linux using WINE, but my mic isn't working. The app on my android phone is working great though. I was able to transmit and receive to/from the test server.

I want Bluetooth in Amateur Radio gear!

I agree. Technology hasn't bastardized amateur radio. Radio IS technology. It's just an older form that doesn't seem as relevant given how pervasive mobile communications has become with cell phones and, to some extent, the internet. When I was 12, I strapped a handheld CB to my bike and...

ANYONE FROM THE FORUM USING ECHOLINK??

Downloaded and installed today, but can't validate until I get my license in the mail. I looked up my call sign, but I need some info of the license itself. Have also installed the EL app on my Adroid phone.

I want Bluetooth in Amateur Radio gear!

I'd like to use a terminal emulator on my Android phone to enter text to send via APRS or Winlink. I'd be happy with a USB connection between the phone and radio, but BT would be better.

    New Tech Indecisive

Thanks for both replies. They are helpful. OK, you helped me get over the "gotta have that gadget" phase of shopping, and I'm back looking for a good, functional dual band. At some point, I would like to get a mobile, but for my main use, I'll be on foot or at least on two wheels, so...

    New Tech Indecisive

I'm confused. I'm a new tech and am looking for a handheld. My primary interest is in back country communication. I like to go off-road motorcycle riding and do quite abit hiking. Generally, there is no cell service in the areas I ride/hike. However, there are repeaters in the areas, so...

    What kind of smart phone?

Agreed! I can just get through the day with all the radios on (bluetooth, wifi, gps, and phone...I never use the FM radio so I guess that one is off). I I remember to shut of BT and GPS when I'm at work, I can usually go two days. That's without much phone use though....just text and email.

    What kind of smart phone?

Recently traded my HTC Touch for the new 4G Evo (hardly ever use 4G though), so I voted Android. I used to be in the "I just need a phone to be a phone," camp, but ended up in the phone as a communication device. I find communicating via text to be more efficient then a call most of the...

    New Tech

Definitely glad to be here. Robb, no problem on the temporary ban. I would have used my call sign, but I don't have it yet. I use magconpres everywhere else on the net since it is fairly unique, even though the company is long gone and I now work for a large shoe company in Beaverton, OR...

    New Tech

Passed my tech exam the other day and am waiting for my call sign. I would have sat for the General as well, but I was in somewhat of a rush that evening (I had a free half hour and decided to sit for the tech exam). Found this forum and started researching HTs. My main interest is in...
