I'm no Charles Ingell when working with wood and metal but thought I'd give this a go because it turned out so simple in the end.
It's almost impossible to find hubs for the PDLII so I used a block of wood for all 3 hubs. The image below is for a PDLII for 2m and if only I could believe...
I've not used this particular antenna, agree totally with the poster above and would like to add a few comments.
I read all the reviews on eham and most say it works fine/great etc (5/5) and some say its a dummy load (0 or 1/5).
A capacitively loaded short dipole will be tricky but not...
One piece of advice for anyone thinking about getting into the hobby is to get hold of a shortwave receiver and listen as much as you can.
String up a piece of wire (house mains wire is good) and you can listen to how people operate, how propagation varies from day to night, season to season...
Hi Brett,
Hopefully, you can see the bent copper pipe matching section. Its a bit crudely done but should be OK. I had to increase the boom length because the matching section took a bit more real estate than the original 'globe' did. The original boom length was 58" and now its 73" long...
Hi,
Yep, thats the software I used to get the initial dimensions for the folded dipole and the loop dimensions. I used copper pipe in my build, simply bent to shape. I'll post a picture of it asap.

This is the natural forum for any Avanti antenna.
I've modeled and re-built my PDLII and wonder if I've made any obvious howlers.
I'll try and keep an eye on this thread because I have time to read but find it difficult to respond in early fashion.
btw. watching USA v Germany in the footie.
LOL, from what I've read, Wayne was quite outspoken on all sorts of issues!!
The saturation point for colloidal silver is between 20 ppm - 30 ppm which is why I'm buying the bits for the scatter amp to ensure a 5 ppm solution as and when.
Not sure to post here or not but its an article from 73 magazine with a PSU, laser source and light scatter amp to build for yourself, friends or family.
If you are into homeopathy, other natural cures and do not use antibiotics or the antibiotics you normally use have lost their...
PDL2
I attach the US patent for the PDL2. Loop size and element spacing for the driven and director elements can be found in the patent.
The driven element of the PDL2 has a full wave of wire. The four 'spreaders' of the driven element plus the 'basket' on which the separate gamma matches...
