Amplifier keying line on solid state mobile amplifiers?

Hi, guys. Every solid state amplifier I have ever owned (CB/10, 6 and 2 meters, powered by 12VDC) have all been the RF sensing type...just key the mic. and the amplifier engages. I have noticed that the vast majority of amateur radio amplifiers like Ameritron, Henry, Heathkit, etc., don't have...

    Cobra 142 GTL receive issues

Hi, Trucker Kevin. Did you ever figure out the problem? I might be fuzzy in my remembering, but seems like I had similar problem with my President P400, which is a clone of the Uniden Washington. Also, my President P400 has the same circuit board as your Cobra 142, SO, except for the outward...

Are Yaesus being made in China and suffering?

--If that is true about Kenwood and ICOM merging, then I hope it works out. I am guessing the guy from ICOM has little control over the merger, and also doesn't mind that some (don't know the extent of their entire line) of the Kenwood stuff is made in China. The "new" Kenwood TM-281 is...

    Yaesu FTM-350 70w ver. ??

--I just looked on Ebay and noticed them, but now they are listed as having 80 watts VHF and 65 watts UHF. I'd be leery of it, myself. You can get the same radio from a seller in the USA for $550 at the proper 50 watt level. At 80 and 65 watts, that's really stressing the finals in that...

Post your mobile Amatuer radio set up.

MitchellB: I have that exact model of Yaesu. I think (looking at the reviews, anyway) that you and I are about the only ones that have working units. I bought it when they first came out (1996, I do believe) and I love mine. Yaesu makes an FT-8800, but it won't receive the 1240-1300Mhz ham...

    220mHz band TX/RX on the Kenwood TS-2000?

--Unfortunately, this radio will not transmit in the 220Mhz band after that modification. I wish someone would bother to make an all-mode (modern) radio that had 220 in it, but I can dream. --I wonder why it reads "New" sub band on that website? As stock from the factory, my TS-2000 sub band...

Side By Side Comparisons of Uniden 68/Uniden 680, and Uniden 78/Uniden 880?

--I hope everyone is having a good week. I have been looking at the new Uniden mobiles (680 and 880) and was wondering if the circuit boards were similar to the older Uniden 68 and 78s? Also, regardless of whether or not the circuit boards are about the same/similar, has anyone actually put...

    Converting a Cushcraft AR-10 into an AR-11

--Thanks for the reply. Tomorrow I plan to buy some 3/8 tubing and add it to the antenna so I can work my CB radio friends. Hopefully, after I put the extra tubing in, it will be within the frequency range I want, and I won't have to make several trips on the roof to get the antenna adjusted, lol.

    D-STAR Repeater progress

--Hi. Will your repeater (and ICOM D-STAR repeaters) "pass through" analog signals, or will it ONLY word with D-STAR enabled radios? I know that an analog radio would obviously not transmit D-Star, but was curious if a D-STAR repeater would work with plain ole analog rigs. Thanks.

    Converting a Cushcraft AR-10 into an AR-11

--Hi, all. I am selling one of my CB/10 meter antennas and will be left with a Cushcraft AR-10. What exactly should be done to "convert" the AR-10 into an AR-11? (the AR-11 is a CB antenna that is no longer made...for you guys that have no idea what an AR-11 is). I like experimenting, so what...

    Sirio Gainmaster

--Marconi, very nice results. If I am indeed reading your results correctly, you get a 2.0 SWR at 24.420Mhz, all the way up to 29.750Mhz? I guess I should have typed 2.0 MAXimum at the low end. I've put my MFJ-269 on MACO V58, IMAX2000 and A99 antennas and NONE of them have continuous 10-12...

    Sirio Gainmaster

--While I understand the Gain Master has approximately 4.5Mhz of bandwidth with 2.0 SWR, but what about the IMAX2000 and the Solarcon A99 (without an antenna tuner, that is)? I was thinking that both the IMAX and the A99 "only" had about 1 Mhz of bandwidth (which I am probably wrong). I have...

    Sirio Gainmaster

--Have you tested the antenna in the 12 meter band (24.890-24.990)? I know it's not rated down that low, but was just curious. Too bad they didn't make the antenna to xmit from 24.890-29.700, but I guess that's just nit-picky, as it could probably be tuned with little problem by the radios...

    Sirio Gainmaster

:confused1: Hi, everybody. I was wondering if any of you ten meter and cb radio operators have used/use this antenna? For those of you that have no idea what this antenna is, it is a 5/8 wave vertical that is quite broadbanded, and its frequency range is from 25.5-30 Mhz with a 2.0 SWR in...

    What Band For Repeater?

--Thanks for the reply. I was originally thinking of putting up a 220 machine, partly because it's a "use it or lose it" band. The more 220 repeaters that are on the air, the better. Unfortunately, there are just not many people with 220 Mhz equipment, and I certainly would not expect...

    What Band For Repeater?

--Hello, everybody. We are wanting to put up a repeater, but were wanting some opinions on what band would be better. The bands we are thinking about using are either 2 meters or 10 meters. 2 meters would be probably be better because all amateurs could use it. I was also giving 10 meters...

Populating programming software before receipt of radio

No Problem --Hi. Have fun with your purchase of the Kenwood radios. No problem whatsoever...I have done the exact same thing with a Kenwood 8160 (a modern commercial radio I used for GMRS and 70cM), ICOM F221, ICOM V8000, and an ICOM 2200H. I just typed in what frequencies I wanted and...
