    First antenna build problems....

Yeap, been listening on 27.385 lsb quite a bit. A couple of the Ozzy and California stations really boom over here. Also heard good signals from Honalulu, New York & Indiana, amongst others. FNH

    First antenna build problems....

I've added the extension pole today to raise it up a bit more and added the extra guy ropes with the nylon ring as discussed above. Unfortunately the only rope I found that was the right size and that stated it was UV resistant was bright yellow  , but the whole thing is pretty sturdy now...

    Dual Antenna's Question

The thing that I have been pondering from the very start of this thread is, if you decide on a single antenna, will you change your user name.....

    Receiver kit recommendations...

I am thinking about having a go at building a receiver as I like having a go at making things and being able to listen in on a receiver that I made (hopefully successfully) would add to the experience. I guess making something with a reasonably wide coverage would make sense. I did a bit of a...

    First antenna build problems....

I really appreciate all the comments guys. As there isn't a great deal going on around here on 26.mhz I have tuned it in to get the best SWR on 27mhz. I can alway stick up another old mobile antenna and tune it to 26mhz at a later date and use a switch to talk with the local guys. I have made...

Forgive my ignorance, but is the tower just sitting on the lawn? Or is there a concrete base under there too? FNH

    Logging contacts

So I have my rig pretty much sorted, I've joined a group and got a call sign. So now I need a method of recording my contacts. What sort of infomation is the minimum I need to be taking and what else is useful. I see there is software available to download for record keeping. Is that really...

    First antenna build problems....

Thanks Marconi, I was thinking late last night about seeing if I could raise it up some, to at least get clear of that chimney. I'd then have to build some sort of platform to straddle the ridge to put a ladder on, so I cn tune it though. It's too tall for me as it is and I'm standing on tip...

    First antenna build problems....

Cheers guys. Been scanning around all evening, but things have been pretty quiet. Will keep at it over the coming week and see what happens. Glad I can put the ladder away now though. I reckon I lost a couple of kilo's this last week, with all the 'step aerobics' I've been doing:lol: FNH

    First antenna build problems....

Hi Guys, Thanks for all the additional info. I am using an Yeticom Optima which will cover 24.500 - 29.999. Re the anodising: I'm not sure what grade of anodising I have got here, but all the clamp screws are stainless with either the serated cup ends or ground to a point and really bite...

    First antenna build problems....

Thanks. Top tube of the vertical is 0.5" diameter and I started out with a tip in the end that was tapering down to a 0.125" radius. After first testing I wondered if this was part of the problem and made the tip taper down to a radius of about 0.0625". I'll make up another at 0.25" and see what...

    First antenna build problems....

Okay thanks, so I have some where along the lines, got the numbers wrong. I did trim the radial tubes down a bit too and made them 2.685. Whoops. Here's a rough section of the internal connections. Okay thanks. It was a version of that article I read, that prompted me to try winding the...

    First antenna build problems....

Thanks for the quick response. That cable was the only thing I didn't do! I got a shop in town to make it up for me. Yes it is a crimp type, I cannot check the one in the picture (dark & raining), but the one on the other end inside looks neat and the crimped collar is slotted, which may...

    First antenna build problems....

Hi guys, Firstly please excuse any errors in my descriptions, I am pretty new to this. I have just made my first attempt at an antenna to use for a base station (pic 1). It is a quarter wave ground plane and I am intially trying to tune it in for the Kiwi AM band which is 26.330 - 26.770...

    Newbie just saying Hi

Hi Folks, Just thought I’d poke my head up and say hi from the South Island of New Zealand. I’ve been slowly getting back into CB recently again, after having one set up as a base station a couple of decades ago back in the UK. I fitted an older Cobra 148gtl in my Ute with a Clarion antenna...
