    SERIOUS PIECE OF TEST EQUIPMENT

Then, there a those of us who would really like to break into an RF-related technical career, but it just hasn't happened yet. In the mean time, there is plenty to tinker with and learn from. There's a medical term for the clinical condition where you aren't capable of learning anything new. Its...

Can anyone tell me what this is?

Correct. Unless a cap has seriously overheated, and therefore bulged at the top, you won't see it at first. They leak at the seal around the legs. Since boards in CB rigs are usually upside down, you'd see it running from the bottom upwards. Can be green, or clear, or black, or "pus yaller,"...

    LOW PASS FILTER

In theory, a properly designed low pass filter is not going to have much insertion loss. Some, not much. I won't attempt to quantify. Now, I your system is spewing a lot of shyte and Spurs and such, you'll notice a decrease on the bird in the equal amount of crud that the filter knocked down. 807

    Looking for So. Cal. Tech.

What kind of work so you need done? I kinda would like to break into the business, but I have absolutely no established reputation for this kind of work, outside of my own friends!

Its called "I'll see your horror, and raise you another." ;) Actually, thats supposedly an AM broadcast transmitter in Quito, Ecuador, so the 833's are right at home. Sorta.

Does this mean want I think it means? The HOA will control

What sucks about this the most is for the guy who gets interested in the radio hobby _after_ buying the HOA house for his plastic, overly-materialistic wife. He's the one who is most screwed, because once he gets sick of the phony Mercedes-driving wanna-be country club life, he can't sit in his...

    XForce Got it.

Ham vs. CB'er, Ham vs. Ham, CB'er vs. CB'er, its all the same, all over the 'net. Somene is always going to want to pick on what another is doing. (ok, I've seen Ham vs. Ham get particularly nasty. ;) ) Do what you like, and don't give an F what someone else says, isn't worth the energy! 807

Ok, let's get it to back up into the bowl, and out of the pipe, lets not call Mr. Rooter yet. ;) I think we need an Ebonics expert to truly answer my original questions! I agree with the poster who turns to ch 6 first, I do the same thing, just to see if the band is open. Been doing that for...

Ok.... I didn't intend to start a shyte storm by posting this. I simply want to understand what the heck this whole channel 6 thing is, because it IS so freaking insane... just like looking at a train wreck. Massive amplifiers and insane mobile rigs are cool. Looking at pictures of how they are...

    SERIOUS PIECE OF TEST EQUIPMENT

I have not used one, and I know little about it other than: They like to die, and they are nearly impossible to fix. I've been offered dead ones for $20 several times, and always passed. I have one of these: http://www.amtronix.com/hp8924c60.htm It only weighs 62 lbs. ;) Its got a spectrum...

    Uniden 980 not transmitting

Heck, if I wasn't on the opposite coast, I'd offer to fix it for you cheap. Go into business doing it yourself! Link to the part in one of my earlier posts. This is all the rest of what you need, and some practice: You could use a cheaper soldering iron, but this thing is a Cadillac, I...

    More channel 6 questions

Please pardon my n00bness. ;) 1.) Why do these guys say "bye bye bye" at the end of each transmission, when we all know they're going to be keying up again in 3 seconds or less? Is that just another word for "break?" 2.) Since assumption is dangerous, please tell me what exactly is the...

    Uniden 980 not transmitting

Wrangling pocket-protector engineers, "un-effing" manufacturing, and delivering within budget are universal headaches anywhere "stuff" gets made. I think despite being pretty darn cheap and made in China, the 980SSB is a heck of a radio. I'd be interested to hear from someone who's installed one...

    Uniden 980 not transmitting

Ok, the Mitsubishi RD16HHF1 RF mosfet can be had here, 2 for ten bucks: http://www.kitsandparts.com/transistors.php I've purchased several times from these folks and have been very pleased. I have 4 of these mosfets on hand for my 980SSB. ;) You can probably get it for around $4.50 from...

    19 AND COUNTED OUT

Ancient Hebrew Wise Man once said: "He who lies down with dogs, gets fleas." I hope all who actually waste time and watch these crap reality shows feel sick lately. Supply and Demand! If people weren't so hell bent on watching the latest freak show, the networks wouldn't be putting cameras in...

    New Old Hy-Gain CLR2

A few years ago a buddy was cleaning out his garage and gave me this antenna, though the box was decomposing, it had never been put together, let alone put up in the air. I haven't been interested in 11M until just recently, haven't been on the band for about 25 years. So when the bug hit me...
