Not pushing this product, there are several brands available. This video and the other suggested videos on the side bar will give you an idea on how they work. The kits are available on Amazon and other online sources. Just one of many ways to filter water!

KK6SJJ,

This is the kind of thing I have been thinking of. I have heard good things about the Berkey filters but have not spoken with anyone that has used them. Hopefully someone here has some input.

Not bad at 0.5 micron and it appears very easy to use. IMO, I still prefer the Sawyer.

The Sawyer Mini™ is rated at 0.1 micron ABSOLUTE (5 times smaller than 0.5 micron) which means there are zero pores are larger than 0.1 micron.

Sawyer Point ZeroTWO™ Bucket Purifier Assembly Kit is rated at 0.02 micron (25 times smaller than 0.5 micron) and can gravity filter 170 gallons per day.

Didn't catch the .5 micron bit, the filters I looked at on Amazon were advertised at .2 micron. I've looked at several charts for chlorinating and they have all called for 8 drops for clear water and 16 drops for cloudy water. Better safe than sorry though!

if you want something portable the Survivor Filter PRO 0.01 Micron Water Purifier Pump looks real decent . it's on my to-get list .

Iwent to Sawyer filter a few years ago, actually 2 Sawyer filters, their gravity feed filter for camping with the Mrs and the Mini for my 24 hour SAR pack. No complaints here. I had at 1 time a PUR filter, it was good to, just more complicated to field clean.

Rabbi,

Does that filter whole Rv system or just drinking water? Got well water here loaded with iron oxide, have 3 whole house filters and a Rv filter just before inlet. First filter is 6 micron white paper, 2 and 3 are 10 micron carbon, then the carbon Rv filter. Still get red stains in shower and toilet.

Seems that system might not have the flow needed for shower, sink, and toilet.

Most iron is in solution. Usually need a catalyst to bring it out of suspension to be filtered. If my science is to be remembered.
You are correct. Chlorine. Tried chlorine down well with a day of circulation. The water tastes terrible, but when you add chlorine, it's just terrible chlorinated water. Drink bottled H2O.

Trying to get crap filtered with out buying water softener. Not sure that would help. Thinking rusty salted water. Distilling, now I'm wandering. Reverse osmosis.......

Iron in solution cannot be simply filtered out. You need some sort of water softener. My well water is high in iron. I live with it. The toilet and sink/tub get stained now and then but it is easily removed with some type of cleaner the wife uses. I have a 3 micron inline filter installed but that is simply to prevent tiny pieces of stone from clogging the screens in the faucets and the washer. My well is 100 feet deep and drilled into slate starting at about 4 feet below the surface. I have two water lines from it. One comes into the house and the other simply acts as an overflow. If I plug the overflow off the water rises up out of the well casing and flows over the ground. I have so much water flow in the well that the slate keeps washing tiny pieces of stone out of all the cracks in the rock and it finds it's way into the plumbing hence the inline filter before distribution throughout the house.
