I just took a look at this "mod."
hmmm, wonder how many actually got it to work. ?
with the driver TR8 changed to a 2166 -
maybe not enough RF drive to TR8, so tune up L14.
and L13 for maximum to drive TR7.
and L10 for output level.
so watch the RF output on the meter, and tune up,
starting...
never mind. I assumed this 142GTL main board is the same as a 2000.
I opened it up. this 142 is from an old guy and said it was in his closet
for many years. it looks like it was never opened up before. it still has/had the
paper gasket at the front of the cover, and it is all decomposed...
I listened to your audio problem a few times.
the radios I had had more random loud crackling noise,
sounding like listening to 75 meter SSB on a summer
night with thunderstorms around. it was obvious the
TA7222 was bad, also knowing that the radios came from
noisy trucks where the volume was...
hmmm. yes, I had some radios with that problem.
the audio amp IC TA7222 goes bad.
all that crackly noise out the speaker.
more tests: put in PA mode and connect a speaker to
the "PA SP" jack. listen for the noise.
- Transmit in AM mode and listen on another radio.
key up, MIC gain...
"they move the rig near Belmont , LA. We've been working in Coushatta LA. Got to experience my first earthquake there. Strange sensation when the ground starts shaking you and everything around you"
OK, you are working up north west from here.
In "Redneck Louisiana" as it is known.
I am way...
yeah, I get cats n dogs showing up at my house sometimes.
somebody told me that "pets find you, you don't find them"
So I have taken a few animals in over the years.
Or I find a home for them, since I live
on a roadway with traffic, and in the back yard is a bayou with
alligators and water...
.
Yes, back then. as young kids in that area.
We used to ride our bikes to that Grauman's Chinese Theatre
and watch people get their plastic molded souvenir from
that machine outside. Ride over to The La Brea Tarpits, and we
went to an inside display, and were throwing rocks and sticks
into the...
oooh yeah! I remember all that.
two of us on one bike sometimes.
the banana seats had sparkle reflectors in the design.
and those type of handlebars were funny at the time.
and a five-speed stick shift on a bicycle, how revolutionary!
And go ride around on a warm Los Angeles Saturday...
.
yeah!
I remember growing up in Los Angeles late 60's to early 70's.
Tonka trucks built tuff. They had that "steel" symbol on them.
We trashed on them in a dirt spot in the back yard. hard to
break them.
Also remember them Schwinn bicycles, the Stingray, with
a "sissy bar" and that big flat...
The steering on my 20-year-old Troy-Bilt Pony (MTD/Craftsman/Yard Machine)
is going out also. It is similar, if not the same as posted here.
Now I gotta take a look at it.
yes, I remember them devices! Advertised on the Art Bell show,
(C.C. Crane)
and maybe shows on WWCR shortwave. Back when they had
William Cooper on, and others. maybe 7435 kHz???
So I made a few of them. Just make a big multi-turn loop antenna
with a variable capacitor to tune in. And...
I found their schedule:
https://www.rnz.co.nz/international/listen
starting at 2100 zulu on 17675 kHz
I will check for it. not much on the SW bands anymore.
in English. I listen for pirates. 6850 to 6965 kHz area.
mostly religious stuff these days.
I used to listen to that guy that said...
I work on and repair that kind old tube stuff.
but it would cost a lot of money to send it out.
do you live around Baton Rouge. ??
and maybe a hard to find transformer or tube is needed.
or many capacitors need replacing.
what is the apparent problem with that receiver?
I just gave a guy all...
OK, worked on a Connex 3300HP that had no PA or Echo.
the problem was in the echo board, and I replaced it.
Now PA works. and echo works, but he does not use that.
But........
this guy claims that while he is outside of his truck, in PA mode,
he can get radio calls also in the PA speaker on...
a few years ago, on 17 meters, there was a guy that
vacationed down in Jamaica and he had an antenna
set up like that, right on the beach several feet
off the sand. I would talk to him during his
Winter vacation down there.
And also there was a guy that would
go to a park near Phoenix AZ and...
