Is it just me or does it seem that different radios using a different intermediate frequency are more susceptible to electrical noise
That hurt my head
I saw a hf antenna and can’t remember the name. It’s kind of a vertical diamond shaped loop that has a coil in the center of the diamond. The diamond looked like it was built out of a 3” wide thin metal.
I’m not even sure where to post this story. I’ve bitten off and ordered a poc radio. It’s a $35 4g radio like rapid radio. Uses Zello.
I didn’t pay attention and I had to turn around and order a SIM card.
I’ve used it in WiFi. I now have the sim installed and I’ve ran it on that in my normal...
I want to build an uhf repeater for a job site . On the cheap of course. I’ve seen the stacked baofunks using mic/speaker cords and side by side mobiles.
Anyone had any good luck experiences setting anything up?
After a few years of astrovan and s10 ignition noise I’ve located a few things that helped. Cb hf and vhf all just spring from ignition noise. Here’s what I’ve found.
89s10 a constant whooshing to a solid white noise as speed picks up in the rx while driving. It’s the cable less Speedo module...
Looking at a starduster, about half way up there are a couple of why they call short radials. Are they using that like a cap hat? What I always understood was the idea for proper function of a cap hat was on top of the antenna. Or better yet, what’s that mess do
I’ve spent quite a bit of time reading, building and wondering about vertical antennas. I’ve raised them and I’ve lowered them. I’ve tried 1/4, 1/2 and 5/8 wave.
All things considered, it don’t matter just a whole lot really what antenna you use once you’re off the ground. On the ground or at...
Icom 718 rx is fine. Tx isn’t working. Key up and it just “thumps” repeatedly. Had a lightning strike close to me and I assume static hit me. Might’ve been some lightning I dunno. Radio was off but antenna was hooked up. Any ideas
After lightening got my archer .64 I took to rebuilding an original avanti Astroplane I had been given a while back. Took it all apart cleaned up the joints replaced the connection wire from the so239 to the driven sleeve and drilled out the snapped bolt from the top and rethreaded it.
Drug it...
I have several radios ranging from old and simple to more current and in between. I’ve noticed that rf gain just doesn’t seem to be rf gain across the board. It seems to me that there are two different methods that have been used. One is actually a rf gain control where the sensitivity is indeed...
I know we had a conversation about if resonance was your best preforming adjustment of an antenna. And swr has been beat to death too. But let me see if I can twist it some more. It’s too chilly for me to be interested in trying this right now but I’ve been curious about trying this out to see...
I have run both 102 and loaded whips. Base load center load and top load. I’ve read all the trash on each one about compromise and on and on.
1/4 wave being my choice of whip I have to wonder, height being such a factor in any plot you see i am always looking for better or different.
What’s...
It’s time to address ignition noise through a tune up. Chevy Astro with a 4.3. It’s for sure spark related. There’s resistor wires and resistor plugs available. I’m leaning toward resistor wires and standard plugs.
What’s your experiences?
So I’m looking around. An antenna is just an antenna but of course there’s differences. I have old clr2, penetrator, astroplane, 64 wave archer and a busted big stick. I currently use the 64. Current height is around 55ish feet to the top of the mast. I use it on 10/11 meters.
I’m more...
Installed it today. 102 whip on a Chevy Astro a rear drivers side with whip tip at 14.5’. Swr is 24.217 is 2.4 to 30.105 is 2.2. And of course 15m is over 8. No 15 till I put the tuner installed. 83 watts was the max output unless it’s on 15m then it was 24 watts
Radio has 1.01 firmware...
