Lookin' over the Ski-matic and the boards for the Speaker 1-2 switch and board for the external speakers, I'm guessing my connections will likely need to be made to the board for the switch. :confused1: Ugh :headbang

Working on my 2000 putting in a UTB-1. Little puzzled where to hook up the orange and yellow wires since the external speakers dont run off the main board like a 148 etc. Everything else was a breeze...just not certain on these last two. :unsure:

I'm in the process of deciding to gut a 959 or 148 to transplant in a trashed Hi-Gain VIII. I did salvage all the internals and original wiring from the Hy-Gain. Just thought it would be a neat project. Certainly not looking to sell for a inflated price...just something to do that was...

I've only used the OEM antenna and it seems to work just fine. However, I have only had the opportunity to use it on VHF from local 2m repeater, which worked just fine but I'm only about 6 miles from the repeater / tower. It's also not surprising that I'm able to talk to my dispatch on narrow...

I agree there! I did expect this thing to be on the flimsy side. Not say it isn't but thus far all has really made an impression that as cheaply made as it is there was a bit more effort to keep it from falling apart the first time out of the box. Any way... I have had the back off but...

I picked up a real decent shape PC9 the other day...No reason other than it was in nice shape and had everything but the rubberduck antenna. And besides it was cheap too. I'm really kind of impressed with its reception so far just hooked up to the OE mag mount telescopic antenna. I seriously...

I'm not a bassy sounding person but I do talk monotone generally. I'm not a fan of a mic you have to eat but NC mic may be the best solution... I just don't know... But that has been the most common complaint with those so far...too much road noise.

I have removed the original 5 pin din plug and thought I had it all figured out to convert to a standard 4 pin Cobra/Uniden...but I'm guessing I have something backwards. Radio RX fine with no mic hooked up (which it shouldn't) and goes into TX with the mic plugged in and gives me hellova...

The Mrs got me a UV-5R for Christmas. Had minor annoying issues with software and cable. There's a SHOCK, I know! I really like it. Works just fine on narrow band too :tongue_smilie: I have gotten use to most of the programming functions of the radio & software...But can anybody tell me...

yep... single tone RB... Have one like it that I got back in 1987-ish...still works sharp & loud

I bought some connectors & coax from them. I had to send an email to them and the replies were very polite and appreciative. :thumbup: I will do business with them again..

I personally don't think a 102 on ball & spring would be that bad on the quarter panel...just depends if ya want a big honking hole in the side of the car.

What kind of vehicle you put it in? You leaving it on the dash? Really need to run power out to the battery if at all possible...but you probably knew that... Daylight always sucks! lol I love links like this...just makes it a lot easier to go ahead and save the money back to get one. :thumbup:

I don't remember if it was the CRE or another but I know I read or heard one of the newer exports had face plate glue issues. I wouldn't think with all the adhesives in the world that would be an issue anymore...but its trivial at best. Wattage sounds pretty decent :thumbup1:

You have a good sized thumb drive you can download it to and then put on computer at home? I've had the sofware on my computer for about 3 months already lol Now if I just had the radio! :D
