Check the anode plate cap on top of the tubes. Make sure both the screws are tight. Also look at the parasitic resistors coming off the top of tube and see if they are burnt or cracked. BUT BE SURE ITS UNPLUGGED AND DISCHARGED BEFORE DOING SO.
All this I need a flat swr stuff is really nonsense. 1.5 is perfect. 1.5 to 1.2 will make absolutely no difference to you or the person hearing you. Only difference is the swr meter you are looking at gives you a warm cuddly feeling.
Unplug the fuse for the factory radio. You will see noise dissappear. Had a new Sierra a few years back and it was the screen on the radio. Even with radio turned off I got the noise. As soon as key was turned to the on position. Even with truck not running.
