Idea's and opinions on converting broadcast mic for CB use

Ok the radio's I have that need or could use a nice mic are diode switched. The ones that are fine as is are relay switched. Go figure. I was thinking about taking a PTT switch from a non-working mic and useing it to convert harp/early broadcast mic to CB use. I know I need the two auid line...

    Palomar SSB 600 CB Radio

So is this radio basically the same as the Palomar SSB 500 outside of cosmetics? This is what I can tell you about mine. It has dual finals and it looks all factory. I used a flash light and they are both 2SC1969 finals, then too the left of the finals are two transistors I can not read...

Not sure if this = Howbrew? Mic Project

Since I can not buy what I want I decided to go a different direction. I figured I could select the mic I want no matter if it is Broadcast or for Musical production. Then I could add signal processing and amplification to it in the base of the unit. Kind of like a D104 on Steroids. The amp...

Is it just me or is everything moving backwards??? No Mic's?

Ok so it seems to me that their are now now good powered hand mics on the market at all. The Astatic line of powered hand mics are now junk compared to the Older D104M6B, the RF Unlimted has noise issues in it's one mic that is not a toy with echo and other nonsense and even base mics are now...

Thinking about putting up a dipole in attic

Ok, I am not currently on the air. I am currently renting from relatives and just moved in a few weeks back. The second floor has doors that lead directly to attic space on each side of the finished up stairs rooms! I am on a tight budget so that is why I was thinking dipole. I was going to set...

What the heck where they thinking in 1970's?? A 10MFD 450V Cap???

Ok so as if the Cap on the front side of the board was not bad enough I removed the board and found a (2) 10mfd 450V paper Beaver brand paper cap on the back side....... Get this they are 20mm in diameter by exactly 30mm in length and when I measured how much larger they could be then that...

Check out these spec.'s and tell me if this is reasonable???

Ok I am looking for a 450V Electrolytic Cap with not less the 30uF capacitance to replace some 30++++ year old Cornell Dublier paper caps in a rectifier board that are blistering even though they are still amazingly testing out as good. Only a matter of time before they give way. My problem is...

Cap's Across Diodes on Rectifier Board???

First most of the home brew rectifier boards have small 3kv Orange Ceramic Disc caps across each diode I assume as a form of surge protection. I have been looking at OEM rectifier boards and most of them skip the caps across each diode. Now keeping in mind that I will not use this as my sole...

Any one intersted in Microwave Oven Transformer's needs to watch this!!

I think this demonstrates just how robust they can be especially with low voltage high amperage. The fun part is near the end when you see what he doing with them. Kind of makes 30 seconds to 2 minute key down seem like kids stuff from an abuse and durability perspective. This is just proves...

Cheap way to test HV sections with out Variac

Ok so I have an old 6/12 2,5,10 amp batter charger. I took it apart cleaned the Transformer with iso/alcohol then backed it the over at 180 degree's F. Then I mixed up some resin and poured into the transformer. I replaced some of the diodes and cap's since I intend to return it to being a...

I was looking at my relay collection and had a question??

I have an assortment of used and new Bosh, P&B, Siemens, Grundig etc....they are all 12-24V DC rated. So I got to thinking I know scarry right? I do not have anything in the rest of this rig that is 12 or 24 volt DC everything in here that needs a voltage to trigger it is AC. So I was...

Best way to use the transformer

So I have two transformer with a center tap voltage of 1100 Volts @ 1 amp and 150 Volts. My voltage and amp target is 2500V@.800ma as a minimum standard. I want this device to be durable and lst mr the rest of my life. I can : Wire to two to get 2200 volts@1 amp and and not need a doubler...

Any one not already up to date on it should look at the Google Chrom Book

I think it will change the way a lot of people look at computing. I think it has the potential to be even more Apple iPad then the apple Ipad......It has a lot going for it for those that do not need the additional trappings of a full blown laptop. Speed, Battery Life, Connectivity, Apps...

Hot to mathmaticly predict voltage sage for each added tube in circuit?

I know my target for two tubes is 2500V800ma for full output. I have to say I am not that concerned about being able to drive each tube to it's limit. What I am trying to figure out is how much no load voltage I need to arrive at 2500V@800ma. The reason I say this is because under no load...

I finally used something from all the chemistry class's I have had to take....

So I am on ebay looking at wire wound resistors oh my is there ever a lot to dig through........So what do I come across parts out of Taiwan wait for it wait for it...here it come......5W 10Kj that would be 10 kiloJouls........So I actually had a reason to set it up as a conversion factor and...

The old mobile tube amps ?Broad Band? Tunning?

Ok so the ones that did not have tune and load controls how did they do it? How did they get read of the need for tune and load controls? I would like to try and to build one if I can work out a simple auto tuning circuit. Obviously I do not want to be driving down the road and having to mess...

Any Reason why you should build the doubler/rectifier on top of the Caps?

I see some guys put their diodes, resistors and such directly on top of the caps. Some people build it in the form of a board with traces going from the common diode and common resistor banks over to the caps which are also grouped together. SO is their a best practice or does it not matter...

Nothing worse then wrong tool for the job....

Well first I am trying to make a non-axial cap that is about 1/2 an inch too long and 30% larger diameter fit because I have a lot of them on hand. I know first mistake...... So I go to dig out my old Weller Soldering Station from H.S. it sounded like a box full of broken glass.....So she did...

Ok I know what I am about to ask is ok on industrial transformer's but ????

Ok my High Voltage Transformers have no taps for filiamanet or bias etc....they do have two sets of identical HV taps same color wires. I know it is not a problem to wire these taps parallel. Can they also be wired in series with in a single transformer? If yes I would imagine that...

What did they do to the D104-M

I know that when Barjan(sp) bought out Astatic they went willy nilly cheapening everything up so that almost nothing is as good as it used to be before the buy out! Everything I have herd from people my age and older that used Astatic products from the 1940 up until the buy out all say the same...
